Some bands that I loved and forgot about then re-discovered (some cracking downloads - ahem) recently are:

Mission of Burma (That's when I reach for my revolver)
Grauzone (Schlaktek)
Killing Joke (Jaz has stopped growling and started singing again - stunning)
Blueboy
The Wake
Deep Purple (listened to Highway Star recently - OMG!)
Van der Graaf Generator (pre 1975 albums are stunning)
Ozric Tentacles
Johnny Moped
The Mekons
Chic
Rufus (with Chaka Khan - saw them supporting the Beach Boys at Wembley!)
Styx
Wishbone Ash (Live Dates!!!!)

and many many more

I haven't. Saw them in 74 at Brighton Poly, later at the Dome, Reading festival, the theatre opposite Victoria station, then 25 years later, at High Wycombe, up in Diss, in London, and more recently, twice in Canterbury. Richard the drummer ran a pub in Faversham, and sadly died a few years back. Morris the roady lives here also (man about town). Geoff Richardson and new boy (for the last 20 year) Jim Leverton lives in a Caravan (ironically) over Oare way (in the precint). Great bass player and mate of Stevie Marriott. Good lad but he can't remember anything about the 60s or 70s. Dave Sibclaire ran a music shop in Herne Bay, but has retired now. Jan Schelhaas was on keyboards again last time I saw them. Cunning Stunts. Cheers!

Spookily enough I was working in Faversham today!

As a teenage Soft Machine Fan in 1970's Cheshire I never thought I would ever get to see any of the Canterbury Scene hangouts...

There is some great 'new' shoegaze. Check out The Soft Moon. Also, Section 25 are still going (the godfathers of shoegaze to dance). And I have picked up some amazing obscure tracks by Modern Eon recently. They were smashing.

Thanks for these, will check them all out.

I realised I didn't mention the Yanks like Husker Du, Buffalo Tom, Sonic Youth, Throwing Muses, Drop Nineteens or the mighty Pavement.

A lot of my 90's CD's are going to be dug out over the next few days!

When I moved here in 89 it was a dream come true. I even went and found the church fields where Caravan 'camped out' in 1967. When I saw Caravan in Diss in 98, I got to meet them all. Richard Sinclair played on the bill at the Canterbury festival about 10 years ago. He is just amazing. And Hatfield and the North . . . Pip Pyle on drums - stunning. I saw soft machine at Hove town hall in the early 70s, when they had Alan whatsisname, the yorkshireman on guitar - very jazz rock, then. I adore Robery Wyatt and once got the dj at the Brighton top rank (rock nights, early 70s) to play Sea Song (much to nobody's amusement except mine). Cheers!

Just remembered, I joind the Caravan club in in74 and got a nice typed letter from the secretary, Richard Sinclaire's missus, who basically ran their pub in Faversham in recent years (because Richard was a bit keen on drinking the takings, alledegdly). Sue, I think her name was. Very nice.

That will be Alan Holdsworth, I'm also a Robert Wyatt Fan, I think the Moon in June by the Soft Machine is possibly the most sublime piece of music ever written, especially the BBC Top Gear version (not forgetting the extra facilities, such as the Tea Machine, just along the corridor)

His versions of Strange Fruit and The Internationale are sublime. Always a good reality check for me when I start imagining the tories ain't so bad after all :lolol: And Shipbuilding. Wyatt is still at it, and still with Ms Benge, bless him.

Rediscovered the wonderful King Crimson recently. This is from a later line up with the stunning Adrian Belew. For folk who have experienced that first mad rush of love, this may reawaken delicious memories . . . .

I can remember there used to be a record shop - can't remember what it was called - in Worthing around by the back entrance of Bentalls by the Cinema (Odeon?) near Montague Terrace. Their window around the release of "In the Land of Grey and Pink" (very late 1960s or early 1970's?) was full of advertising material for it. It's an album i still very happily listen to to this day, along with much of what they did afterwards. "In the Land of Grey and Pink, where only boy scouts stop to think......"

Edit - released April 8th 1971 - the year I did my A-Levels.

Gene October!......A band I was in supported Chelsea back in around 92 at The Madeira Hotel. Empty venue.

A mate of mine was a big fan of the band Chelsea. In the Batcave club in London, there he was, Gene...so my mate Paul went and had a chat.

Gene propositioned him. Paul is straight, but my word, he was tempted.
