So has anyone booked a first marathon? Or adding to their totals this year?
Any marathon New Years resolutions?

Planning on having a go at these, may add some others in after the summer

Dymchurch (Saxon Shore) 24/1
Darkstar 31/1
Stinger 6/3
Moyleman 13/3
SDW50 9/4
Brighton 17/4
Three Forts 1/5
Arun River Run 14/5
SDW100 11/6
Lunar-tic July
Farnham Pilgrim September
Mouth-to-mouth date TBC
Beachy Head October

No real resolutions. Would just like to get a bit better, avoid injury and keep enjoying it. It's a privilege to be able to run.

Wow - that's some list. Have ran the Stinger a number of times, a toughie! Am also running Brighton (done all 6 so far, so need to keep the 100% going, Three Forts will do the half this year, Arun river am doing too, Farnham done before & Beachy 7 times. Am doing 8 marathons this year with only Fort William in Scotland & Lanzarote outside England.

Keep fit & smile - we are the 'lucky ones'

So who has started their marathon training for the spring?

I have just completed week one of my training programme for Brighton marathon (although I am doing one next month, which I will treat as a long run!). I did Hove Park 5k yesterday (as part of the programme of course). As it has been 3 months since I last ran it, I knew my time wouldn't be great, but 21:58 was 30 seconds slower than my average 5k time for 2015. It's amazing how quickly the speedwork vanishes! Will run Preston Park 5k next week - hopefully a bit better time, with a longish run on the Sunday - yay

I've run 12 & 11 miles respectively in the past fortnight as I starting ramping up the miles for Brighton. I've managed to take a minute per mile off my time over the past two marathons but now at the stage where that would be near impossible to repeat, unless I significantly upped my mileage.

Looking at where I am this year compared to the same period last year I'm on track for a time of around 3:10-3:20 but so many variables in a marathon and particularly with a later than usual start in April where temperatures can be very high.

Is Lunar-tic definitely on this year, Dazza? I looked it up the other day but found no mention of it.

There are a few on your list I would love to try - not this year though. I think London, Brighton, Lunar-tic, and IOW should do it for me. Might be one more in there somewhere...

I came in two seconds ahead of you at HP then, SF. After a 23-min parkrun last week I was quite pleased with getting below 22 again.

Yes, but I don't think date is confirmed yet. They have already got the medals sorted (I've seen them) - 4 interlocking for anyone that does their series of 4 river marathons this year (incidentally, the brother of one of the STE organisers is a regular poster on NSC). Highly recommended event - no need to be a racing snake, very much a fun thing. One of my favorites last year

Looks good. Had a beautiful swim in the river by the start last August. Blue sky, blue water, Downland. Tempting..........

It's ace. lap of the rec, then up the eastern bank to Upper Beeding, over the bridge, down the western bank to the tollbridge, repeat 3 times. First lap in daylight, second in fading light and 3rd in the dark, with the course moonlit if we're lucky. Aid stations at the Tollbridge and Upper Beeding, so easy to break the race into 6 x 4-4.5 mile chunks. All very social too. Loved it.

Yep - sounds awesome. And probably the only marathon I can do where I can walk to the start line 😃

So how's everyone's running going?
Seem to see a lot of runners pounding the seafront especially at weekends.
Anyone entered any marathons of late. We all need to know!

I'm all set to return to running on Feb 15th after a lengthy lay off. Chicago have released their time qualifier criteria which, as anticipated, I meet. So, it's couch to marathon in 8 months.

Running & beer (we have much in common! - Chicago is one that I very much would like to do. Ticked off Boston & NY, so must do the Windy one sometime)

115 miles this month so far in preparation for Brighton. 4 more to go today and 11 on Sunday so long as I don't get the kids' flu. Target MP is down to around 8"45 to 8"50 if everything goes to plan. Using a coach / personal trainer over the web which I can highly recommend for anyone doing their first or targeting a specific time.

Certainly have achy legs a lot but trying to work on that with stretches, core exercises etc. Lots of worries too, about wind, a hot day, injuries etc.
