Short Eared Owl (wild) taken in East Sussex yesterday.

Just noticed this photo on Flickr Explore. Well done.

Thanks :) Only just noticed it is on explore!
Lots of owls found near the coast at the moment. This one was taken near the coast at 1.30pm.
In the last year I have managed to take photos of 5 species of British Owls all in the daytime.

They often follow the same pattern when hunting so if you find one you can predict where it will go and get yourself into position for the shot.
The one above was in exactly the same field as this time last year and having watched it land on the post a couple of times, waited for it to fly and when it did moved closer to the post (but hidden). It then obliged by landing in exactly the same place for the photo :)

You make it sound so easy!

I spent this afternoon lurking around the house boats on the Adur. Quite liked this one.

Advice: Use the 50mm f1.8 and nothing else to learn photography first. Do not use auto mode on the camera, learn to use Aperture mode, or manual mode. It will make you a better photographer.

Got a 50mm f1.8 from Santa! Haven't used it yet, but soon will do. I'll put any pleasing efforts on here.

Blimey, that's a bounce from that past. Is that your first prime lens?

I love lurking on this thread. Some really stunning shots by you enthusiasts. Please keep them coming.

Apologies for a brief gate crashing again with some mobile phone jobbies, but there was a lovely sunrise this morning outside my bedroom window, considering how gloomy it's been of late. This one was at about 7.30am

Also took some sunrise pics at Þingvellir National Park in Iceland at the beginning of this month. By sunrise I mean around 10.45am
And then towards the end of the short day... something from Gullfoss waterfalls.

I thought I'd have a look back to see how the photos I've posted on this thread have improved/changed, and spotted your early post. Having had this lens as a present, I thought I'd reply.
This is my second prime lens. I also have a 105mm macro lens too, to add to my 80-400mm and 24-120mm. I'm thinking of getting a 1.4 teleconverter for my 80-400mm which apparently works well.

One from the other morning

Is that and the other ones on your flickr page using filters? Stunning shots either way, but I'm curious as to how many sunset/sunrise pics in particular are 'natural' (for want of a better word) and how many have had filters or been edited afterwards.

I am the exception which proves the rule!
A relief for everyone. I use the Kenco for casual stuff, but I don't use it much. It's not bad. If you will use it a lot I imagine the Nikon is better. but maybe check the reviews first.

Only had a UV filter on the front of the lens, mainly to protect it in case i drop or knock it, rather lose that then the whole lens! Edited in bridge RAW with a slight crop.
