I could see Pendle also covered in snow but a bit to far away to get any definition. The Burnley ground is just over the top of Pendle in the next valley.Do they have under soil heating there? It's bloody cold up here!

For us down here I would say that's it for us now. Showers continuing around the coasts, should be a nice crisp sunny day tomorrow!

I don't think we'll be seeing snow down here for a while... It's annoying because the latest GFS run shows potential for there to be a "Beast from the East" at the end of the month, but the wind aren't strong enough to hold off the Westerlies... :(.

A lovely cold and frosty walk to the station this morning - so much better than a drab and dreary mild day.

The Met Office seems less certain about milder temperatures for the next few weeks, now stating "Large day to day variations in temperatures are expected, with overnight frost during the quieter spells". I've also seen mention of snow up north this weekend. So, any of the meteorologists on here want to give us their thoughts for the next few weeks?

The GFS 18z is very interesting...

I'll have a look in a couple of minutes.

To answer the earlier question, I'm still going for an unsettled outlook, but less extreme mild and as you have said, a good chance of snow Northern England and Scotland this weekend.

Having not yet seen the latest GFS, I will say that over the past day or two there have been tenuous hints at a Scandinavian High developing, but without enough support to mention on here

And there it is again. Another Scandinavian High at the very end of the run.

Is it going to happen though?

At 384 hours away, it's highly unlikely to occur as per that chart. I'll need to check the imminent Ensemble chart to really know, but the odds are against it. However, it's encouraging to see it appearing in the output at all. It's a step in the right direction.

The ensemble chart doesn't really seem to support it... :(.

Just put this thread to bed for another year. It is a carbon copy of last winter but even milder 3 - 4 months of south westerly's

That would suit me nicely US, I bloody hate snow and the disruption it brings. I also hate being cold.
