Empire starting on E4 starts tonight at 9
Empire centres around the Lyon family. Luscious, played by Terrence Howard, is the father who discovers he has a terminal illness.

Although he plans to keep the condition a secret, Luscious tells his three sons he's looking for a successor to run the family business, Empire Records.

As the siblings plot against each other to gain control, things are made more complicated by the return of Luscious's ex-wife, Cookie, played by Taraji P Henson.

People didn't think it [Empire] would do well over here

Empire star Taraji P Henson has told Newsbeat she wants to thank UK fans who illegally streamed the hit show.
The actor said: "The only way that it [Empire] got over to the UK is because people were streaming it.
"They [UK television companies] wouldn't have known the show was that important, or that people wanted to see it, if they weren't streaming it."
Empire has been a massive ratings hit for the Fox channel in America and will be shown on E4 in the UK.
"You guys were streaming, and I know it's a bad thing, but when the material is good people will find it," Taraji added.
"Thank you. Thank you everybody. People didn't think it would do well over here.
"So [people said] get it over here and that's what they got."

For those of you who can access Amazon Instant Video, BOSCH is a good watch. It is a police procedural based in LA and has a lot of familiar faces. A good, deep story that isn't constrained by needing to tie-up a case every episode. It is based on books by Michael Connelly, which I haven't read, but according to some reviews I have seen does a good job of going from book to screen :)

I enjoyed that; Titus Welliver is a familiar face and darned good I thought. Though for next series they need to keep Michael Connelly in the background as far as some of the dialogue goes, the plots are good but the words sometimes needed a bit of a shake up!

Cheers for the recommendation

Not obscure as just started on the Beeb, but just finished watching all 13 (American) Oddysey with the luscious Anna Friel. Pretty good, sometimes a bit far fetched but well worth a go.

I've recently been watching Halt and Catch Fire on the American Netflix. It's about a company in the early days of the home computer industry. Worth a watch if you enjoy things like Mad Men (which I loved).

Mr Robot has just started here. About a dysfunctional hacker with a drug problem. Very good so far - and quite eerie considering that 3 major companies in the States were hit by major computer glitches downs last week.

I also like the way the bad guys are called "Evil Corp"

I have just finished watching ''The Affair'. Sky Atlantic. 10 episodes. Gripping stuff and tremendous acting. Series 2 is in the autumn. Anybody else see it?

Veep is back.

Easily the funniest programme on TV.

Following the Brink. It’s actually pretty funny despite having Jack Black in it. It reminds me a bit of Whoops Apocalypse and is decidedly un PC. Tim Robbins plays a randy secretary of state with WW3 about to kick off in Pakistan and Black supplies him with hookers. Amongst the comedy is a lot of truth about how the US handles its foreign relations.

I've just watched the first 2 episodes of Aquarius.

A little formulaic, with twists shoehorned in for effect.
But I think I'll stay with it primarily for David Duchovny who's always class.
