Joking aside, I could not agree with you more.

Yesterday I watched Sunday Brunch and watched Jimmy Bullard's expression when the expert beer critic was explaining how wonderful a 0.5% ABV beer was.

This is just a fad, just like what we saw with flavoured ciders. It's just another chance for breweries to sell overpriced (and often overrated) ale and you're right @prettypinkfairy it's pretentious guff.

A fad? Unless you're someone that never changes what they eat or drink I can't see what the problem is. It's called choice.

Ale declined for about 10 years between mid 90s and mid 2000s and all you could get was either one local ale if you were lucky or John Smiths vomit. A century previous to that and 10 years since, ale has been celebrated by all classes. Yes, there's a rise in the different brews because brewing has got so much easier to do, and the different brews have increased the audience, but it's not pretentious. Even if all bottled beers below 5% move to the criminal 330cl size, there'll still be a range of delicious brews on tap at most pubs. Not sure I've ever had a flavoured cider though, what were they like?

For the record, I think Brewdog are very over-rated and over-priced. I wouldn't turn one down though if offered.

They're pretty much all the same. The cask ale does change but is overpriced and their pricing on their other mainly non-changing lines is of the piss-taking variety. Their staff, in the main, aren't particularly knowledgeable about what they are selling. Don't get me wrong, there's a lot worse pubs out there but I think something to challenge them would be welcomed.

Too many of them, and way way overpriced. They've helped to change Brighton pubs ale mentality but now they're taking the piss. They've got the Temple bar now haven't they?

I personally don't think it's a fad; especially if the US is anything to go by as it's been popular there for some time. It's filling the huge vacuum between real ale and industrial produced lager. I think it will be here for long long time.

PS you cannot use Jimmy Bulland in a debate and be expected to be taken seriously

Being an ardent reader of NSC I know that Brewdog gets mentioned a lot. Last week in Blackpool (business not pleasure) I went to my normal Wetherspoons (all pints sub £2) and saw a flier on the table. Devils Backbone or Brewdog on draught. Excited at the pleasure of finally tasting the NSC's second favorite ale after Harveys I rushed up to the bar. 20 minutes later when someone decided to serve me I was disappointed to find out it had sold out. Checking their website looks like it may be available in many of their pubs though.

I don't think they helped change anything, I think they've cashed in on something that was already happening. The Evening Star has been serving Craft Beer for years and was one of the first places in Brighton to do so and is the last pub in Brighton you'd accuse of being faddy or hipster.

I had a very nice Pint of Siren in there last night. Sensibly priced as always.

Indigo pubs are overpriced, but I quite like some of them. The food is often really good too. Brewdog will be cheaper than Indigo - so will they have to think about cutting their prices?

Yeah, but apart from the Evening Star the rest of Brighton was still getting over the ZEL takeover. Pubs like the Indigo's Reservoir in hanover was somewhere new and somewhere you could have 3 choices of Langhams. It was relatively cheap at the time too.

I just saw this was on TV tonight in the States – I’ve seen a few of the other episodes from other cities in the US and the guys from Brew Dog do a pretty good job.

"Brew Dogs" TV show - Brooklyn
