No. You are failing to recognise that:

1. We didn't get all of our top targets (not a problem if you're ready with the next option).
2. We didn't move onto the next one on the list quickly enough.

As a result, we looked a shambles in our first 2 league games, which we lost.

I admit the loss to Brum was bad, going by the reports from those who were there, but Wednesday have started the season very well, beat us and Boro away and drawn with Derby at home, not too shabby. However, without the Croft sending off , we would have got something

You, my friend, are the one who needs to open your eyes, although you wouldn't see much even if you did (please read on). I am not in ANY WAY embarrassed, and the club ARE continuing to update their recruitment team (also hilariously forced to wheel Barber out to 'explain' there tardy player recruitment). Meanwhile your head is so far up Burke's ar$e you can't see straight.

Silly man, I'll leave you to your delusions. If you look around you, 99% of the fans are pretty happy at the moment. The squad is looking look, we're winning matches, recruitment is ongoing. Do yourself a favour and have a rethink, it's getting you nowhere.

But Wolves would have to have agreed a fee with us for that to happen. They didn't until the very end. If they were after half a million for a 30yr old defender, would that have been acceptable to you?

I liked Ward, but I wouldn't have liked the idea of us paying £500k for him. I'm happy to have moved on from that one and look forward to seeing how Joe Bennett gets on.

I don't think he would ever have cost 500k. The local journalists in Wolverhampton were saying back in June that Wolves were looking for a fee in the low 6 figure range. He was a great left back for us who chipped in with some crucial goals. I would have been quite happy if we'd paid a reasonable fee for him.

As fall back options go, Bennett could be plenty good enough, and gives Chicksen another full season to develop and take the place for himself.
All the while saving some pennies.

You would probably be wrong then. From the Argus, Friday August 15th:-

Albion's deal to bring Stephen Ward back to the Amex has been hijacked by Premier League newcomers Burnley.

...

Now Burnley are thought to have also agreed a fee, of around £500,000, to snatch him from Albion's grasp and Ward, pictured, is expected to move to Turf Moor instead

I think we have a bit of an unbalanced squad, but to get the players we have without splashing out much of the £10 million received for Ulloa and Buckley constitutes very good business. We still need a striker, though, and that's seemingly always the hardest part with this club.

Hardest part of ANY club IMHO

Hello AZ. Should we expect the contract information to return as a stickie on, say, the 2nd September?

That really depends upon how exuberant my birthday celebrations are the day before. And it will probably be an article, rather than a stickie.

But yes, in the manner of Tony Bloom, I am very confident that by the end of the transfer window NSC will be happy with the contract information details that will have been assembled on this site.

Like most on here, I'm really quite impressed by the quality of some of the players that we've acquired in this transfer window, and Burke, Bloom and the board are to be congratulated. The signing of Baldock might be the final piece to our puzzle. I'm also really encouraged by the style of football that we've seen over the last week or so (although, in fairness, Swindon probably played us off the park last night - but that's topic for a different thread)

However, I would caution against expecting too much from this squad too quickly. One of the hallmarks of the BHA of recent seasons has been relative consistency in the spine of the team. Sami and co are effectively starting with a blank piece of paper, and it will take some time for us to gel as a team. 12 new players in a single window represents a seismic shift, and it won't all click immediately. I can't recall ever having witnessed such a totally different squad from one season to next (not to mention a new manager who wants to stamp his own brand of football on the club). All these changes are really exciting, but I just hope the fans recognise that we are still a work in progress and we probably won't see the best of this squad for a good few months. The question is can we be patient enough to recognise that this is an evolving team and that it won't pay the best dividends immediately?

Delighted with what I've seen last 2 games but let's not get ahead of outsves. Real judgement can be made after 10 games minimum IMO!

Hate to say I told you so...

I remembered this thread well as 2 wins and bi-polar NSC was in full voice. It always has to be amazing or terrible on here!!!!

Who is feeling silly now ?

You, I'd imagine, with your constant stream of bullshit.

For what it's worth, I don't think the players we have are the problem. The squad is good enough to challenge for the play-offs, but the man in charge, who I wasn't convinced about when he was appointed, isn't getting the best out of them.

Wouldn't disagree, but don't rate the loans and that includes Bennett (who can't defend), Texeirra (who is too light) and Gardner who is just abysmal.
