[Albion] Nottingham Forest vs Brighton & Hove Albion **** Official Match Day Thread ****

Thunder Bolt

Silly old bat
Little acorns and all that. The season proper starts here.

I think we shaded that game, and on another day might have won 2-0. Hyppia should have brought on Paddy about 10 minutes earlier.

Yep, I agree with that. He hasn't got the fitness to start but should have been given more game time.

I don't think we're far off being a good side. It's just frustrating that we finally found a goal scorer in Ulloa but didn't bother to spend big to get a proper replacement in when he left.

Same result away to runaway Forest as home to whipping boys Blackpool. On the face of it a very decent point. However no league goals again just bears out the lack of a cutting edge. McCourt was on 5 minutes and created more than Colungs but you still need someone to finish the chances. That person isn't CMS on today's evidence.

Would anyone agree that today was the best performance this season, against the team top of the league?

Admittedly, the front men didn't produce, but defensibly we looked superb.

I know it's only the end of September, but I really don't have a good feeling about this season.

Today is a good result up there, but it hasn't given me any more confidence. I believe our transfer dealings have been poor and now we find ourselves left with a squad of players that has a very lightweight feel about it.

Unless something drastic happens in January, I can see it being a long hard season and a flirt with a relegation battle wouldn't overly surprise me. Long way to go yet, and hopefully we can turns things around, but this is just me honest feelings at the moment.

We get a credible draw at the league leaders, keep a clean sheet and you are concerned about a relegation battle?

It must be remembered that we were away from home so a good point. Good performance by CMS kept them on their toes for 94 mins, had one good chance but the one near the end he knew he was offside by his body language. Too adventurous to play Paddy from the start but could well start against Cardiff.

Forest were there for the taking today after making so many changes at Spurs. Decent performance from us. Up the Albion!

No it wasn't....charlton at home was much better and forest dominated the first half without creating much.

Good second half performance I thought, though it's pretty obvious on that display that Forest have no chance of finishing in the top two (or, if they have, then we could win the league). But we're just so poor in front of goal. CMS work rate fantastic but 2 good chances squandered (even though one was offside). Likewise JFC missing from 4 yards (though he was also offside). Something to build on though - at least we've kept it tight at the other end.

Where are the goals coming from then in this squad? Lewis Dunk would probably be the best answer so far.

Check my history on here, I'm a glass half full supporter, slow to criticise, mainly. I'm just giving my honest gut feelings on how I can feel this season might go on the evidence I've seen so far. Yes, it's way too early to be making silly relegation battle predictions, I'll admit to that, but just saying how I feel about this squad of players and the manager - neither inspire confidence at the moment I'm afraid.

I thought that was a great performance overall against the league leaders. Colunga was anonymous and we definitely lack an edge up front, but that aside, I thought we were excellent.

Not a Colunga fan particularly but he did put in a couple of decent crosses that someone like Ulloa would have gobbled up. Shame we haven't got someone like Ulloa.

Its no good scraping 0-0 draws with the squad we've got available. We need a striker and other players who can score when we attack. If the goals don't go in and we can't pick up the points it won't be long before other teams see us as easy pickings. With the quality of sides in The Championship we could find ourselves struggling in the bottom 6.

Pointless stat alert:

This is the first time this season we took more points than in the equivalent fixture last season. By equivalent fixture I mean match number 9. Last season our ninth match was a loss (away to Ipswich), this season a draw. Previous results this season have matched or been worse than last season's equivalent matches.

You obviously werent watching the match either there or on a stream.

I was watching on a stream. It doesn't matter how far or fast you run or how you unsettle a defence if you can't stay onside and can't shoot from just a few yards.
