Stockdale - 5 - Okay game, but made some errors for the first goal..

I don't want to be mean to Stockdale, but, apart from fielding a few back passes, all he had to do today was save 2 shots - he didn't even have a cross to deal with. If that constitutes an okay game then I reckon I should be a Championship keeper!

Stockdale 5 poor
Bruno 6 looks better in midfield
Greer 7
Dunk 8
Bennett 6 what happened to the Bennett that we saw last week?

Holla 7 I like this guy, not fully fit yet though.
JFC 6
Crofts 5 average again
Texeira 7 skilful, everywhere, sometimes tries to take on too much

Colunga 6 Rodriguez mark 2?
CMS 5 poor today, is too easily knocked off the ball by defenders

Gardner 7 made a difference when we were losing the midfield
KLL 6
Baldock n/a

You're right he didn't actually make a save today, his distribution was good though :lolol: He should have saved the first goal really.

Thought we were in the second half..... Hardly created anything. Two goals from set pieces, CMS swivel..... anything else, Bennett lashing it into the side netting, not particularly great.

Tex with a 1 on 1 trying to pass to Colunga for the tap in rather than shoot himself - probably the best chance of the match.

Yes forgot that one, another example of poor decision making, which is why Tex is with us to learn - still a great acquisition. That makes it 3 chances from open play in the second.

Stockdale - 5 - yet to make a save. Dynamite with his feet, but should have been sharper on the second goal. Wonder if Kuszcz would have saved the first.....
Bruno - 6 - ok
Bennett - 4 - Had an absolute stinker, culminating his part in their second with JFC
Greer - 6 - turned too easily on the second
Dunk - 8 - largely because of the goals he scored
Holla - 6 - ok
JFC - 5 - some good passes, some bad, but what was he doing on the second with Bennett? Stupid booking
Crofts - 5 -
Tex - 6 - some brilliant things, some very ordinary
Corluga - 6 - great first half, tired second
CMS - 5 - poor performance, against two big defenders, made good runs, but poor control quite often, great swivel and shot in 2nd half.

Gardner - 6 - ok
KLL - 6 - great cross for the second
Baldock - 6 - barely in the game, but tried

Hyypia/Jones - really poor that they didn't demand that Holla took the free kick near the end.

Ref - just a t**t. Pointed to his watch re time-wasting in the 25th minute, and preceded to do nothing.....

I wasn't there, so bow to your judgement, but regarding your score and comment about Teixeira, isn't that what a gifted creator does - produce some brilliance, but some doesn't come off / looks awful? To get to the level where 95% of his decision-making is faultless for a creative role, he's needs alot more gametime, and if he had that % already, he wouldn't have been loaned out.

Yes, fair comment, but we are judging a players performance on what he does (not making allowances because 'doesn't come off'), and whilst he did a lot of good, he also at times is wasteful, but that is why he is with us. A great player in the making, who, as you say will just get stronger with game time. I really like him, as soon as he came on at Birmingham we looked a different team. He did miss a gilt-edged chance today in the first half, soon after Charlton scored.......

Great game to watch, but with the number of shots we had we should have won. We really really need a target man up front. The few long balls up the middle were completely wasted.

Stockdale 5. Didn't see him make a save. Could he have done better with the first goal? His distribution better than Kuszczack, but so far I haven't seen any signs that he's a better shot-stopper.
Bruno 7. One of his best games in the RB slot. Defended OK and got forward regularly.
Greer 7. Good game apart from one awful pass.
Dunk 9. Great defending and two excellent goals. Really looks the finished article. So pleased Sammi has given him the opportunity.
Bennett 6. Loses a point for his part in Charlton's second goal. Not as good as v Bolton, but OK.
Holla 8. Great performance. I really like this guy.
Crofts 6. OK. Not at his best.
JFC 4. More poor corners until Holla took over and did nothing of note. The weakest link in the team ... again.
Tex 8. Incredible in the 1st half (Vicente with energy), but tried to do too much in the 2nd half. Maybe he was tiring?
Colunga 6. Jury's out. Give him time and let's see.
CMS 5. One good shot on the turn, but overall poor ball control let him down time and again. Also seems to have lost some speed. We need better.

Subs:
Gardner 6. OK, but didn't really notice him.
Lua Lua 7. Made an immediate impact as usual. One very wayward shot, but great assist for the goal. Should have taken the free kick near the end ... he scores from them.
Baldock - not on long enough.

Stockdale 3 - didn't touch the ball apart from a few pass backs. 2 shots; 2 goals.
Bennet 5 - crap final ball
Dunk 9 - outstanding even without the goals.
Greer 7 - solid. Helped restrict them to 2 dangerous shots.
Bruno 7 - see Greer plus got into their box a few times.
Holla 8 - reason we were so dominant in midfield and nearly always won the ball back quickly.
JFC 6 - did ok, took an early yellow for the team.
Crofts 6 - did nothin wrong but didn't really feature for me.
Tex 8 - 9 in first half; 7 in second.
Columga 6 - am I being harsh in saying that he should've scored from 6 yards?
CMS 6 - lively and almost scored but otherwise outmuscled.

Gardner 6
KLL 7 - ran at defenders and assisted the equaliser. One comedy shot that went for a throw in!
Baldock 5 - did he touch the ball in 15 mins?

NWGull 10 - left at full time whistle, got on first train to Brighton, ran across Victoria and Euston concourses and escalators and managed to get on 6-40 train to manchester.

I agree with this 100%

Bennet was far more effective on the left than Bruno on the right.
As these two are meant to be our wingers as wingbacks, when they both got the ball on the wings they didn't put enough balls into the box for our forwards to latch on to. They seem about to cross then stop and pass backwards which slows the game up. Want we want is quick balls from the wings (on the deck?) so as their defence can't compose themselves.

Far too many people saying JFC lost the ball a lot or misplaced passes, the stats say different

I found this game rather frustrating. It felt like the first half was very reminiscent of that West Ham game, where they seemingly sat back and defended with ease. He had a lot of possession, played some lovely looking passes, but could do nothing when we got in the final third, constantly thwarted by a simple combination of discipline and crowding us - we were unable to make space for any cross or shot so would simply blast shots or cross against the defenders that were always there (I was particularly impressed with Deney(?)).

Second half reminded me of Wigan (and others) where we were searching for an equaliser but our attacks seemed slow, and Charlton seemed more eager to get in the Charlton box than we were.

Stockdale 5 - It used to annoy me when people use "great shot stopper" as praise for a goalkeeper. It felt redundant, because that is meant to be the main job role of a goal keeper. So, why has Stockdale not shown that? I haven't been overly impressed with his distribution (longer passes going over the full back's head and out of play, balls in the middle going straight to the opposition unmarked) but today he kept his distribution simple, so it was successful, and he caused trouble when he came forward for the corner.
Bruno 6.5
Greer 7 - I've been impressed with him more this season than last season, so far
Dunk 8
Bennett 7
Holla 7.5
Crofts 5.5 - Kept running down blind alleys. He did well to get out and support Bruno on the right, but as soon as he got out there he seemed to realise he isn't a winger and played like he was out of his depth.
JFC 6
Colunga 7
CMS 5.5 - Bad game. Awful first touch, lacked pace, weak and frequently outmuscled. If he wasn't the focal point of the attack seemed unaware/non alert to the second ball or follow up
Teixeira 7 - some great touches and turns, but some moments where his youth/inexperience showed through.

Gardner 6.5 didn't really notice anything particularly bad, but didn't notice him much at all
LuaLua 6.5 great ball for the second goal, but played so centrally we didn't get use of his pace on the wings.
Baldock seemed to be more alert to support attacks than CMS

5 - yet to make a save. Not great today but will come good has all that is required in good keeper
Bruno - 6 - at times looks great at others I looked down the pitch when we were defending and he was still right up the other end!
Bennett - 5 today seemed unable to take the ball to the by line but clearly a good player
Greer - 6 - was steady most of the game
Dunk - 7 MOM
Holla - 6 - worked hard but there midfield kept him tied down
JFC - 5 - really silly booking early in the game has vision and I think be a really good player in year or two
Crofts - 4 struggled
Tex - 5.5 got vey untidy at time to many three foot passes at other time very impressive
Corluga - 5.5 some and some today but looks like he will fit in well
CMS - 5.5 Runs and Runs and Runs and Runs

Gardner - 6 - improvement on Crofts today
KLL - 5.5 he is a winger not centre midfield
Baldock - 5 only touched the ball a couple of times but I am sure he will be good for us

Hyypia/Jones - not afraid to make

/QUOTE]

I'd disagree that they defended with ease: We created enough clear chances and half chances that we could have scored another 3 on top of the 2 we did if we'd been more clinical. The amount of corners that we won is a good indication of how many times we put a decent ball into the box.

Stockdale - 5 - Little to do. Should have done better with first goal
Bruno - 7 - Worked hard but some ropey defending as well, thought we Missed Calde
Dunk - 9 - Brilliant game. Showed a genuine threat in the air going forward and bossed the match mostly
Greer - 6 - Decent game but got caught wanting a few times
Bennett - 7 - A good game but feel he needs to take on people when he's in advanced positions
Holla - 8 - A very solid display and covers well in defence. Impressed
Forster-Caskey - 6 - Not bad but still making some basic errors
Crofts - 7 - Solid first half, not sure why he was taken off
Teixeira - Just brilliant. The guy has endless energy & talent and on another day could would have scored. My MOM just ahead of Dunk purely on his ability
Corlunga - 8 - Made some great runs and clearly has class. Good home debut
Mackail-Smith - 6 - He was muscled out too easily and still suffers from that dodgy first touch. Should have scored too.

SUBS

Gardner - 7 - Solid display and gives the team some height where it's needed
Lua Lua - 5 - Looked lost when he was more tucked in
Baldock - 5 - Did not have a lot of time to make an impact. Needs to start ahead of CMS in my opinion. Also, the scoreboard spelt his name wrong when he came on, WTF?
