Gus believed in him and boosted his confidence. AEA knew exactly what was required of him and delivered game in game out. On the pitch Greer or Upson told him what to do.

I understand him and Cotterill had a bust up........

Am i righnt in thinking you played used a system other than 4 at the back? (sure i heard someone say you played with 3 CB's) - If so, it's a formation he wouldn't have played in very often (if at all.)

He is also used to playing in a side which passes the ball fairly well and plays possession football and isn't afraid to pass it around the defence, trying to draw the opposition out and leave space for the forwards to attack. If you were hoofing the ball forward, this again would be something he wouldn't have been used to (anymore)

Hopefully a full pre-season with you and a chance at getting used to the style of play that you wish to use down there will work wonders for him and he can show what he can do.

Edit - just seen that you werre indeed playing with 3 at the back as i had heard.

This style of football is what Cotterill is currently implementing on the squad, and Adam could fit into this nicely. The bloke deserves a chance, I've seen him put in quality performances for your lot, I know he has the ability.

He was absolutely brilliant. He commanded the centre of defence. I find it difficult to understand how he has been so poor for you.

Having said that, loads of Albion fans used to moan at him for years. Until Gus reinvented him as a ball playing centre back.

I always loved him.

My thoughts exactly

He's a man you would possibly want to share a trench with. The trouble is, sometimes, he won't throw the hand grenade back.

He's a machine, but the inventors haven't quite perfected him yet. Think Short Circuit.

In Poyets first game as Manager for us, it was against Southampton. 0-0. and Adam was being skinned down the left, Poyet called him over and whispered something in his ear. After that nobody got past him on that day and we won 3-0. This was a team with future England players,( no forget that bit.) If you could find out what Poyet said to him, it's something I'd like to know too, I've never forgotten the incident. I'm not sure which impressed me the most, Poyets coaching skills or Adams response.

I don't remember that. But it was 3-1.

High up on the South Downs.
Always tried hard but was sometimes out of his depth. When Gus replaced him with Upson, the defence became sounder. A solid enough Div 1 player who became a cult hero for some.

He was very average before Gus Poyet joined the club. Often payed out of position before then and underrated by many.

Gus turned up and immediately announced that he was our best and most natural defender.

El Abd then proved him right by putting in some excellent performances.

He is a center half, no other position. And he needs a tall playing partner.

Give him all that, don't expect him to pass he ball and limit his time on it. But he can defend and defend very well.

He's a warrior and, given the chance, can become a cult hero for your team. Not the best and has many shortcomings but he's all heart and will hopefully lead your team to promotion.

We were all shocked when he left.

I think there was a little gap between him going and the next home game.
It was just long enough for me to deal with the 'loss'.

Then at 2:55 with Sussex By The Sea blaring out Adam didn't coming running towards me all shiny head and thighs, flailing his arms about and giving ME a clenched fist roar.

I realised that would never happen again and I was very very sad.
I don't mind admitting a minor tear-ette did well up in my eye.

When we used to play high line he was out of his depth. Easily done over the top as he lacks pace and should never be played at full back.

Once we started playing the ball out from the back he showed he was actually a reasonable footballer as a CB. I think the thing that endeared him to most BHA fans though was his loyalty and spirit in fighting for the cause. A local boy who cares and always put himself on the line.

Gutted when he left and would like him back if you guys don't want him. A reliable squad player who bleeds blue & white.

Maybe that's the problem eh Brizzie Lad?, he bleeds BLUE & white. Perhaps he should be playing for that lot down the road from you. Mind you, he would be in the Conference this season if he was.
