Burnley are never gonna bother to play against Reading and even if they don't lose we're never gonna beat Forest either. Stop dreaming.

Nice comparison, but do you think that Italy and Burnley have a similar mentality.

Basically we're lulling the rest into a false sense of security. Italy will win both games, we'll thrash Costa Rica then because expectation has already been eradicated with the public the pressure wil be off and we'll ride the wave to the final.

More chance of me pulling Jordan and Kate Moss and spending the rest off the World Cup shagging them up both holes every day then England going through.

Will there be a live stream for this?

If only you had left Kate Moss out of the equation then we'd have believed England had a chance

Italy will beat Costa Rica.

If Italy and Uruguay are drawing I hope we gift Costa Rica a win to eliminate Uruguay!

I reckon Uruguay will do Italy and then England will draw to Costa Rica though...

Saying that... This could be balotelli's chance to become an English hero if he smashes in the winner against Uruguay and England somehow manage to win a game...

Wonderfully delusional thread this. First off Italy won't beat Uruguay, with Suarez firing they are back at their 2010 best when they were just about unbeatable and will probably only get knocked out by penalties now. Second, I love the apparent cast iron assumption England will beat Costa Rica, so typically arrogant, it's no certainty whatsoever....

We can squeeze through with a high scoring win over Costa Rica & Italy beat Uraguay for all the hype and tension to start over again!

Not going to be easy for Italy. 1pm kick off, worst time of the day to play football. Costa Rica are also a good team.
Predict a draw here or Italy lose. Even Italy admit this is not going to be an easy game.

Chill out. People are allowed to have hope.

I agree, cheers. The thread was a little tongue in cheek to be honest. My main point being if we do fluke out of the group all the same pain / angst / anxiety / hope / despair will be back to haunt us in R2!

I admit that it's very slight hope but if someone were to have a 3 match accy on Italy v Costa Rica; Italy v Uruguay; and England v Costa Rica, you wouldn't think they were bonkers to bet on the results that England need to qualify.

Put yourself in Costa Rica's position, stack the defence for a goal less draw against Italy then play England who would have nothing to play for. (except pride)

That's the problem.

Italy win, and they'll rest a few as a draw would see them through.

That would be a risky plan bearing in mind that if Italy do win today, Uruguay will need to win and still rely on Costa Rica not beating us. Italy could have a goal difference of just +2 going into the last game, Uruguay are on -1. If Uruguay get their noses in front and Costa Rica are beating us, one more goal from Uruguay could put the Italians out. Uruguay win by 2 goals puts them on +1 and Italy on 0. Costa Rica are on +2, lose by one tonight and then beat us they will still be on at least +2.

I can see Italy beating Costa Rica. Hopefully they will get their noses ahead against Uruguay and then shut up shop. We can then concentrate on doing something we haven't done yet; score more goals than the team at the other end of the pitch (at least two more than the opposition)!

I believe.

And if my auntie had boll*cks she'd be my uncle. Would be nice to think England can beat Costa Rica by a margin but more likely is contrived draw from Uruguay v Italy neither of whom will be particularly fussed who they end up playing in the 2nd round.
