Did he? I had to write Aguero off as a potential selection as, according to wikipedia, he played for them 175 times...

That box only shows league appearances.

If you scroll further down the page it shows appearances including Cup and Continental....and the total is 234.

Sorry to be such a stirrer, but I'd like to be absolutely clear on the rules before making my next pick. If Gary Hart's appearances for Brighton count, fine. If not, I'd like to have an alternative in place.

I assume Hamilton will be reversing his "substitution" now?

Think it's my pick?
So selecting my manager to fill category 12 has played against Brighton

This selection may suffer from an appeal however, I believe it to be valid and within the rules.

For my fourth pick I'm going to complete the spine of my team by putting in one of the most decorated goalkeepers of all time.

A one-club man who has never played at a world cup (the category I'm selecting him under) despite being in the 2010 squad, he's soon to be one of the most in-demand free agents in world football.

He was the first choice keeper for one of the best club sides in history, he is, of course;

Victor Valdes

Well don't I feel like a dimmy. Would have taken him over mr potato head if I'd been smart enough to scroll down!

I might be being dumb(again....) but where would the appeal come from?

I had a fear that some would see being in a World Cup squad as the same as playing in one.

We've had a few moments of confusion so far so it didn't seem outside the realms of possibility that it could happen...

Just to create my own moment of confusion, would an unemployed manager count as managing outside the top 5 leagues (no, not Moyes), or does the lack of job now mean he would no longer count as a manager as is instead just some bloke...?

Surely if this is a "current" World XI Draft - and therefore based on current quality/form, then he wouldnt be highly regarded in this format?

If he meets the criteria as a manager for a category, and hasn't retired, then personally I don't see why he can't be included.

Ah, right. I think its fine so long as they haven't actually appeared in a match.

I reckon he's got to be gainfully employed, at least at the time of selection.

Quite possibly, though would the same thinking apply to a player (for example, Messi), if he was out injured (or released by Barca for a bizarre reason)? You'd still know he's incredible regardless...

I only ask as there are many talented managers out there but, unlike players, it's entirely feasible that some highly regarded ones could be unemployed at the time of the draft.

Well that was my thinking, specifically around the 'outside the top 5' category. It does mean that all unemployed managers are in play but at the same time you're effectively choosing to pay a penalty as they're unlikely to be a top name (Guardiola would be out of reach for example).

This is the kind of shit I don't think about when I decide the categories, haha.

I think the way I'm leaning is, an unemployed manager counts for most categories but when it comes to "manages outside the top 5" they wouldn't count.

For example somebody who had managed one team 200 times would be allowed in to that category (as long as they haven't retired) but wouldn't count as managing outside the top 5 leagues.
