The Albion Roar

Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
This week's show's guests are Andy Bass and Vicki Lank. Lots of stuff to talk about - mostly 2-1 defeats.

While you're reading this, can I ask anyone who listens a couple of things...

1. Thank you for listening. You're wonderful. Any time.... :angel::cute:

2. When do you usually listen to The Albion Roar? Live or via podcast? Podcast - would like to listen live but usually hoovering at the time.:mad:

3. If it's live, is it usually on FM or the internet? Interweb because of location - see left

4. If it's on podcast, WHEN - generally? When I remember - usually well after the event and reminded by NSC thread/post :moo:

Just as a heads-up, for one week only, we're LIVE this Friday at 6.30pm, rather than on Saturday at 12pm.

Though by looking at the responses as to when people listen, that doesn't sound as though it's going to make too much difference.

Guest(s) TBA.

As stated yesterday, we're live at 6.30pm this Friday, with guest PC Darren Balkham and another guest TBA.

Can I also point NSCers towards this weekend's 'Reverbathon'...?

REVERBATHON MARCH 2014

This March, RadioReverb is seven years old. And like any seven-year-old, we're funny, insightful, unpredictable, inventive and occasionally downright wilful. To mark that anniversary, we’ll be holding a "Reverbathon" fundraiser, broadcasting live from 8am on Saturday March 8th to midnight on Sunday 9th March 2014.

Sponsor one of our Programmes
Radio Reverb doesn't run advertisements - all our show are free of news, weather, travel and ad breaks. Nor are we subject to playing corporate playlists. We do, however, have overheads - rent, rates, heating, licences and so on - so we're looking for local businesses to sponsor an hour-long show for just £30.

Sponsors will receive:
- on-air credits for supporting RadioReverb and your sponsored programme;
- mentions of events you have coming up (where appropriate);
- the option to record a message for broadcast during your sponsored show;
- promotion on RadioReverb’s website and a link to your own web page;
- credits on RadioReverb’s social media (Facebook, Twitter) acknowledging your support for RadioReverb.

If anyone wishes to co-sponsor The Albion Roar for this one week, please let me know.

Alternatively, if anyone wishes to make an individual donation towards what we feel is a good service and an asset for Brighton & Hove, please go to www.radioreverb.com, and click on the DONATE button on the home page.

Thank you.

Afternoon AL. Are your live shows like TF Fridays where you have a limited amount of audience in attendance, if not then why not?

'Ow do.

We have no audience in attendance. When I say 'LIVE' - it's not as in 'Cheers is filmed in front of a LIVE stoodio audience' - it means we're broadcasting live.

We sometimes record our shows on Friday evening if, for whatever reason, broadcasting live on Saturday isn't do-able (either because we're going to an away game, or the guest can't make it in on Saturday etc).

Is this so you can have a few sherbets before the game? God knows, I'm going to need a few beers to watch Reading again.

Have you considered having fans in for the live phone in as would expect a few would be in attendance as would be good watching the discussion in person. Where are your shows held out of interest?

A fortunate happenstance. :)

The truth is that on the Saturday is International Women's Day, and Radio Reverb is celebrating that fact by having all-female presenters on that day. No real skin off our nose to move the show for a week.

The fact that we wanted Darren Balkham in, and Saturdays are generally a no-no to him, help us out too.

We have considered doing The Albion Roar in front of a live audience. The main drawback is that we'd have to hire a venue and equipment (Reverb has limited OB resources), and therefore charge people to come in.

Our studios are in Old Steine at the moment.

Have you ever thought of approaching the club to see if you could do the show live from the ground as you're the number one Albion fan radio station for the fans. They have many empty rooms where you could broadcast from and I personally think it'll be a fantastic idea. Community stadium for the fans, Have you thought about going down this route? It makes perfect sense and you could allow a certain amount of Albion fans in on match days to witness the conversation.

Yes and no. While on the surface it's a decent idea, there are some issues around it.

Firstly, the club's 'official radio partner' is Juice FM, not Radio Reverb.

Regarding 'broadcasting', there aren't any broadcasting facilities in the club's name. It doesn't have a radio station licence. Also, the topography of the area means that coverage is limited. For instance, the Radio Reverb FM signal, which comes out of the Whitehawk transmitter can, on a good day, be picked up as far away as Arundel. Sadly, it can't be picked up that well in Falmer, which means that any signals coming out of Falmer would go... nowhere. Of course, the club could set up a relay system so that the Whitehawk transmitter can do the business, but they'd only do that if they set up their own radio station. Chickens and eggs.

If you're talking about broadcasting to people in the stadium on matchday - well, who listens to the radio in the stadium on matchday?

Next, the club themselves did something along these lines (a live recording) and, in their words '... it bombed badly.'

Finally, and I think this is the most important issue, not only are we independent of the club - we want to be seen to be independent. We have a good relationship with the club and we do collaborate from time to time.

We're by no means giving up the idea of doing what you're suggesting, and when I said 'Old Steine at the moment...', there's one or two things happening which could change what we do and how we do it. We've just been asked not to say at present what that is.

As Al said, we have discussed the possibility of doing a 'live show' which would be an audience with style thing.

It would be from a central Brighton location tho and we would have to charge for it.

We dont actually know how many people would be interested in in thogh
