Brighton factually.....
I am on twitter, I have not used it for neigh on over a year or more. I tried coming off twitter, but for some reason it is not simple to close an account down like it is on facebook or the like. It is for people with way too much time on their hands.

He's grown up a bit since kicking Ulreka in the face. Now he's the victim, and quite rightly he's trying to do something about it. The police have to act against the morons.
Meanwhile 99.9% of twitters carry on using Twitter correctly, like human beings.

With Twitter I just don't get the whole 'following' thing. I don't care what most of my friends have had for dinner, let alone some B List celebrity that I've never met.

Exactly why I don't follow friends or 'celebrities' (except for The Rock, he's actually awesome).

I think people, not pointing fingers at you here by the way, think that by default Twitter bombards you with loads of pointless nonsense which isn't the case. You only see things from people you follow or which are retweeted by people you follow. Personally I rarely see anything annoying on there because the people I follow are, by and large, journalists, fellow data professionals and Albion fans. Along with some fun stuff like Science Porn (some fascinating info comes out of that account)

If you're prepared to keep on top of who and what you follow Twitter can be a rich experience.

Commander Chris Hadfield is a Canadian astronaut who returned from the ISS recently. He sent some fantastic photos of the earth from there and still tweets some interesting stuff.

Caroline Criado-Perez, the woman who campaigned for Jane Austin to appear on bank notes, was subject to horrific abuse on twitter. How I laughed when the two culprits were arrested and sentenced a couple of weeks ago, and when filmed on camera outside were too SCARED to show their faces willingly. Luckily, we got to saw them anyway - and what a pair of ugly fat sad sacks they were. As usual, this type of abusive person is nearly always socially inadequate and nearly always fück ugly. Driven by jealousy I assume.

Funnily enough, me finding out through twitter a new technique for coding keyframes in a certain software didn't make the news. It was, however invaluable to me.
And that's Twitter.

Stan Collymore has deleted his Twitter account.
I'm glad to see this and he has gone up in my estimations. He was on the campaign trail yesterday and had a lot to say about how the people at Twitter should be accountable.

So it's good that he is principled enough to stop using it in this way.

More or less this. It's a tedious and lazy argument that Twitter is full of people talking about their dinner. Journos are by far the best people I've found to follow. You find a some, weed out one or two, find some more, and you basically have a direct line to stuff that interests you without having to wade through other crap. Plus, you sometimes get a personal side to the stories/articles/news/whatever. Which is nice.

This type of abuse and harrassment needs to be wiped out and the perpetrators dealt with.

I can't help feeling though, that Collymore didn't help himself a great deal by re-tweeting a lot of the abuse. This just gives the abusers an excuse to brag in the pub about how 'my tweet got X,000 re-tweets.

I think its a good thing he retweeted the abuse. It puts them very much in the spotlight for any potential future employers, their current employers, the police, family members, friends etc. It's shameful behaviour and the perpetrators should be publicly shamed for it.

Lord Sugar has retweeted an abusive tweet today which was aimed at him standing up for Colleymore. It was racist abuse about Jews. It does highlight the abuse, force the police to notice it (he included their twitter in it) and when it's deleted by the offender, is still on record.
I'm fairly sure he then blocks the offender in any case.

If the police are expected to deal with this sort of stuff then Twitter should pay for the extra resources required by the the police forces.

Why should Twitter pay for extra resources ? It isn't their fault people are being trolling ****s on their website.

When found guilty, the trolls are the ones who should be covering police costs.

Recorded crime is going down in all areas which includes the charge of using malicious communications.

I don't see why you and I should have to pay for it, especially since Twitter is valued at over £10b.

If pubs have to pay for bouncers because they have anti social problems, then I don't see why Facebook/Twitter shouldn't have similar responsibilities.

Just a thought really.
