For once I agree with you completly!
Take the money now rather than £0 come the end of the season
If thay have £750k they have £1m.... Take the money and get a good/proven striker in on loan for 15-18k a week and put the rest towards securing Ince's future at the club

It would be utter, utter madness to let him go without a replacement.
I don't believe the club is so short-termist as to think getting £750,000 in return for no chance of getting to the Premiership could ever translate into 'a good piece of business'.
Just because he hasn't signed a contract here yet doesn't follow he won't at some point in the future.

We sold Noone but Dobbie played for Palace on loan, he helped Palace when still a Brighton player.
Not quite. He wasn't allowed to play against us because at that point he was only on loan. The deal was for the loan to become permanent at the end of the season. If we sell a player we cannot get a clause that forbids him from playing against us as he isn't our player any more. I believe there was some controversy over a "gentlemen's agreement" between man utd and Everton with Tim Howard after he was sold.

I'm shocked that people think he'd want to leave us. We have to be a better option than Wolves or Burnley for his career. He's never mentioned any public interest to leave just expressed a desire to play regularly. Unless it's a premiership team coming in for him I cannot see Barnes pushing for a transfer

How about a large lump sum signing on fee plus a large weekly wage rise, would that not tempt him like it did Murray?

If he did want to leave I'm sure it would be a very hard decision, but would be based upon:
1. Being first choice striker somewhere, or at least being selected for all/most games
2. Signing on fee
3. Salary
4. Location
5. Upheaval
6. Feeling valued
1. - as long as we play 1 striker, and Ulloa is fit he's either going to be on the bench or fill in wide.
2. I suppose we might be able to offer him a fee, if his current deal runs out, but it's high risk for both sides to leave it that late.
3. Other clubs may be able to offer him a higher salary, especially if they see him as a starter every week. From the Albion's perspective, we need to offer him a fair salary that doesn't insult him, but reflects our valuation of him.

I like Barnes and think his general all-round game has improved but we need to avoid a Murray situation and sell.
Also I think the team in general find it hard to score (apart from Ulloa usually), so we need to start finding players with proven goal scoring in the Championship.

Stay at a club where, despite scoring more goals than anyone else for us in the last 3 years, he gets dogs abuse for any slight indiscretion/mistake, or go to another club where they feel they're signing a proven Championship striker?
I love Barnes but I don't think he'll stay. He's said numerous times that he felt he was being forced out and that the fans don't like him. If he can get more money and a big fat signing on fee at the end of the season, I expect him to go. A vocal minority of fans have shown him no loyalty, so why should he show any in return?
Also, definately don't sell him. He's too valuable to the team to let go without a decent replacement lined up.

Quite. Looking at it from the player's point of view, he must have been feeling a bit unsure as to where he'd end up in the pecking order along with CMS, Hoskins and Ulloa. Plus the added factor of non-cognoscenti on your back all the time. And a young family to provide for. Seems to me that Ashley has played the contract game completely right. Why sign a new contract earlydoors and consign yourself to possible reserve team football for the foreseeable? Instead he has done exactly the right thing and forced the management to take him seriously by consistently producing the goalscoring goods over and above his WAY more expensive-signing team mates. Proper striker, with a proper striker's hunger, and one to be casually let go at our peril. IMHO, like.

IF we had a replacement we could think about it but we don't so no way we can let him go.
If the worst came to the worst as with FFSMurray we would lose £750K but sell him now with no cover and we are out of the promotion race with the near guarantee that many STH's wont renew.

Or here, I agree. It's just more likely that he will sign a new contract with us before the end of the season I would have thought?

Was tempted to say 1.5M but being so young will say 2M PLUS we'd have to have a replacement deal done. Can't see it. CMS is certainly not the consistant answer!

I think that even his most ardent critics (whatever happened to Mr Burns ?) would have to agree that he has improved hugely every season he has been here and is still improving. Is that really the sort of player that we should be looking to sell ?
