This.

Atmosphere tomorrow night will be shitter than a night out with Tony Pulis.

Atmosphere on Saturday will be excellent.

Evening games are always shit at the Amex cos everyone just talks amongst themselves constantly for some reason.

Does anyone know the tune to that Viva Orlandi song?

By the time the whole N.S has joined in singing a song, the people who started it have normally stopped.. We need to sing a minimum of 3 verses, preferably more.

We are also told there is a correlation between the noise and level of support generated by the fans and the performance of the team on the pitch

There is no correlation. It's a myth to make you feel important, to make you feel that you're a participant in the game.

First season: noisy atmosphere - finished tenth.
Second season: less noisy atmosphere - finished fourth.

I see your point, but your example doesn't account for several other variables. I'd be interested to see an extensive piece of research on what kind of correlation there is (if any).

I noticed the massive amounts of empty seats in the first game shown on this weeks Football League Show.
From then on, that's where my main focus was, and it looked as if there wasn't a single ground, that was more than half full.

Once again it seems, NSC is doing down the Amex and our own fans.
All atmospheres could be better, there's certainly a lot worse.

Thanks. You are right that there are other things to consider, such as players' experience of playing at a level and changes to personnel. I think the main thing is that there is no reliable or consistent correlation between generating noise and for it to positively influence a home team's performance. Sometimes, away players talk of being 'lifted' by an atmosphere at an away ground, or home players feel less relaxed by what they interpret as high as a high level of expectation. Even then, although 'lifted' in terms of morale, whether that helps a player's technique in passing the ball accurately is questionable.

People used to talk about the Kop being worth a 'goal start' or metaphorically sucking the ball into the net. However, the fact that Liverpool had a much better team than anyone else in the late 1970s and 1980s was probably more relevant as to why they dominated at Anfield.

Yep it was great to sing but they'll probably be some NSC goon moaning that Palace sing a version of that song as well and then we won't be allowed to sing it :ffsparr:

Or it's too "European"/plastic/tinpot/whatever this week's buzzword is

Probably. Love its bouncy, feel good, one arm in the air feel. Simple, catchy, can go on for ages.

Brighton factually.....
Would it not be easier if we took a leaf outta the Americans at baseball where the ground announcer puts on some music and we all start singing and for those that do not know the words we could have them flashed up À la karaoke style. This would keep the whole ground at the correct speed and singing the same songs therefore making us the envy of every other soccer ball teams fans.... Hey Ho lets go Seagulls... clap clap... Hey Ho lets go......

i'll get me coat.....
