If this sort of thing comes anywhere near true then we have got the wrong Doctor. The role currently thrives on actors bringing a new spin to the character and maybe Capaldi's previous will have a negative impact. We will have to wait and see.

There's no way the Doctor will ever swear, but there's room for a more abrasive character. They would have to be careful though, as a more abrasive Hartnell meant the original pilot had to be reshot, and of course Colin Bakers Doctor almost killed the programme

I know there will be no swearing but we had " abrasive " with Eccleston and it never really worked. The last two Doctors came with limited previous especially Smith, but, both grew in to the role and made it their own. Ah well, we shall see. Anyway Papa, where is the big freeze the Express has promised ?

What I would say about the special last night is that Dr Who's assistant is pretty fit.

Every so often I consider opening a thread that is clearly about something I have no interest in, just so I can add a post telling everyone how little I care about it and I wish they wouldn't talk about it, just to see if it makes me feel better about it.

But then I think 'why bother? I don't really care about that topic, and no one will really care about me not caring so it would just be a waste'

Tough titty,It made me feel better anyway!
Seriously,I am not really that bothered by Dr.Who,but I have got rather bored and tired by the endless publicity and promotion that the BBC have given to this programme.
Yes,it may have been a waste, but I haven't been able to put my telly on without being bored and bombarded by Dr.Who either.
Doesn't seem I am alone judging by yesterday's Newswatch programme.

Been saying that ever since she was announced

I was never much taken with the assistants - a curious bunch of bad actresses in the main. However, Clara is just dreamy. When she says 'you clever boy' I practically, well, you know . . . .

Last nights special was fantastic, great chemistry between Hurt, Smith and Tennant. Loved the whole scope of the story line. Peter Capaldi is going to nail it as the doctor, I can feel it already. The guy is a fantastic actor and I genuinely think he is going to do a great job.

Just pure fantastical enjoyable relief from much of the dross on telly. Just brilliant family entertainment and long may it continue.

Absolutely fantastic program, loved all the little nods to the past especially the bit with the policeman and Coal Hill School at the beginning. So does this now mean John Hurt is an official Doctor or does he not count?

What was the relevance of the policeman and Coal Hill School at the beginning?

Then it wont have escaped you that its the FIFTIETH anniversary. Worth the self indulgent celebrating no? Only Corrie and Blue Peter have ran longer and still going today.

Well there's a shock, NSC's resident resting actor doesn't like something. Who would have guessed?

There really wasn't much to like.

A tip from one **** to another. Being a **** is forgivable, being an inaccurate **** is not. Think on lad. Think on.
