So, anyone been lucky enough to get one? (Or sensible enough to preorder one a few months ago?)

I didn't preorder as I wasn't sure if I could afford it by the time it came out, but have just nipped down to Asda on the off chance - no such luck, and wishful thinking I know!

Still undecided as to Xbox One or PS4 - had been leaning towards PS4, but really not sure...

Still completely undecided. PS4 and Xbone hardware are, let's face it, pretty much identical.
I'd want the full kit (camera) for whichever system I go for so I guess it depends on the reviews and then the prices/bundles available on Boxing Day or NY Sales.

PS4 is the more powerful gaming system and it's cheaper to boot.

Thing is I'm not much of a gamer anymore, the multimedia side of things is just as important and it's an area Xbox excels at.

Does PS4 have Sky with live Sky Sports? That's a massive one for me with my Xbox360.

I'm going to be that guy.

Do yourselves a massive favour and skip the 'Next gen.' Buy yourself a PC and be done with closed systems on substandard hardware for laughable prices. Why pay twice for online gaming when you can pay once? Social networking? I can do that on my PC far better than on a console, if I was that way inclined. Movies and TV? PC does it all better.

It's been a long time coming, my personal return to the world of dedicated PC gaming but now that I am back where I belong, I wonder why I ever moved to a console in the first place. They are simply second rate machines with inferior exclusives to tie you to any given console.

And while I'm busy being that guy, I am deadly serious in what I say here. Modern consoles are very, very expensive gimmicks.

I do all of that on my laptop personally.

Yep - 3 of them arrived today!

PS4 is the more powerful gaming system and it's cheaper to boot.
X1 came with a game worth £40, and Kinect worth a good £100 - if you want Kinect that is. PS4 is more powerful, but you'd be hard pushed to notice. Both have some advantages.

I got x box one today. Very good so far. Played FIFA 14 for the first time and it's brilliant. Not many apps at the moment but more to come. Heard there was a few problems with the disc drive which I hopefully have not got after using the blu ray drive which was good. The sound out put is brilliant. It's got the kinda windows 8 theme to the home menu. Bit hard to navigate. I have a 360 too and I can't seem to find the arcade games at the moment unless that will be an update soon to come.
Otherwise I'm very happy. Kinect is very good.

1080p vs 720p is very noticeable to anyone who wants to notice.

1080p vs 720p is very noticeable to anyone who wants to notice.
1) There is only one game that's 1080 on the PS4 and 720 on the X1, due to the fact it released on 6 platforms. There will probably never be another game that's 1080 on one and 720 on the other,
2) That game looks rubbish anyway, it's more about high FPS than graphics.
3) In gaming there is more to image quality than resolution (a 720, 900 or 1080p image from a game is not as good as the equivalent photo).
4) Even if you did have a high quality 1080 vs a high quality 720 (which you don't), you'd still have to sit reasonably close to a big tv to see the difference.
5) Even then, you're unlikely to care when you're gaming.

now i read a throw away comment on a half review (wasnt intended to be a complete one, just a summary) that the PS4 has most the multimedia features of the Xbox, just they arent trumpeting them. they are deliberatly advertising it as a machine for gamers in contrast to Xbox aiming at being all things to all boys, but the inference is the tricks are there and word of mouth will market those extras. short version, look very closly at the comparison reviews and specs.

i assume your pc is plugged into a tv with gamepads? otherwise thats a ridiculously flimsy argument

The irony is that the best game out this quarter is the new Super Mario Land on the Wii U, which sold about three copies.

Either it is all about graphics or it isn't.

Bottom line is that only a single Xbone title that can in anyway be described as graphically advanced is able to push 1080p. Most are sat at 720p. That's shit. These boxs are meant to last 7-8 years and already they are poor.
