In the concourse at half time (I was there).

And, according to a few other posters, outside the ground afterwards, stuff like people's cars and property being damaged (I wasn't there).

I do sympathise with this. At West Ham away last season I asked a senior officer how long we would have to put up with the spitting and the throwing of bottles along with the usual, but rather more graphic take, on the gay chanting.

He told me that I should' p**s off back to that Fag*ots town with the rest of the poo*ft*s if I didnt like it'.

Tremendous work from Londons finest.

And you got his number and reported him!

Not an accurate comparison. Nobody is potentially stopping you in the middle of the road to check your ID on your way to or from the shop / pub.

no, its entirely accurate. you dont have to go into a shop and buy alcohol, just as you dont have to go to this game. aside for that, has anyone confirm if the Police asked for this or it was the club as suggested elsewhere.

This -- at the last away match at Selhurst, I didn't like being kettled after the match, but equally I didn't like (and was embarrassed by, frankly) watching some of my fellow Albion "fans" ripping out seats, damaging toilets, vandalising large numbers of cars, persistently rushing the police line and crushing other fans at the front of the crowd waiting to be let out to walk to the station, and abusing locals who weren't obviously Palace fans but were just unfortunate enough to live on the route between the ground and station. Or maybe I was hallucinating and imagined it all? I hold no particular brief for the Met, who have got plenty to be ashamed of in their recent history, but equally I can understand their wish to prevent this being repeated at a playoff match at which quite a lot more is at stake for both teams and which therefore has the potential for a bit more trouble.

I'd have to disagree with this, I left Selhurst early (BAD FAN) but still got caught in the right at the front of the kettle, now if the Police had treated us normally, walking with us, not facing us, vizors down, like they wanted a fight none of the trouble would have occurred. If they hadn't of treated us like animals, which they did, unfairly IMHO then the trouble wouldn't of happened, due to the goading the police undertook.

bit of a sweeping generalisation that.

true, police officers are still human, they make mistakes and like all jobs, you get some people who are good at their job and some people who are bad at their job. The met have more than their fair share of the latter.

Probably the damage to near enough every car in the Norwood area, ripped seats from Selhurst and a few fans acting like knobs. Not large scale rioting, which is what you might think of happened if the Met want to ban our entire support.
what's that got to do with wall at Wembley

Maybe it is the teacher in me but it would be so much easier if people just accepted the instruction and followed it.

Probably the teacher in you I guess?

I stopped taking the 'I know better than you, I am doing this for your own good, don't ask questions just do as your told' bu****it when I left school.

Thank god for that after some of the comments on here thought I had imagined what it was like.

I also find it very odd those people that have a problem with all authority- those people that hate police, teachers, stewards etc seem to have psychological issues with following instructions.

Or another way of looking at it. If a few fans had not acted like utter dicks first then the police would not have put visors on, kettled us or treated us like animals.

i am responsible for my own behaviour.Palace fans aren't, the Met aren't, my mates aren't, I am. It is sort of what makes me an adult.

When we started to walk the Police had their vizors down, I agree if fans hadn't of acted like idiots at half time that might not of happened, but still the policing at the end of the game was heavy handed and over the top.

Don't really understand how the police attitude to which you refer (which I didn't see, despite being at the front of the kettle myself@) could explain a) smashing up toilets and seats (well before the kettling), or indeed b) pulling off wing mirrors and abusing locals. So the police are aggressive with you, and that justifies vandalising the cars of innocent people? You'd have to be a bit of a moron to make that argument, surely?

Well next time record any questions on your phone so you have evidence.

You see, while I agree in general, I take issue with a group of around 2,000 people being treated as one body and judged by the actions of a minority.

I will got to Selhurst, behave and act responsibly. I will also be held back, treated like shit and asked to carry ID to be produced at any stage of my journey to and from the ground.

Surely Section 60 legislation can deal with the minority without having to resort to these steps. Not that I agree with anti terrorism laws being used to stop and search football fans but there you go...

Tough shit. I like to go abroad but because of the actions of a minority (considerably smaller percentage than those arrested at the Amex) who chose to take bombs on planes, I have to go through security long before I get anywhere near a plane. Personally, I am quite happy with that as it helps deter morons taking stuff on planes to kill people and that reassures me as, on occasion, I am one of those people the idiots might try and kill. Likewise, if the conditions for the away leg at Palace prevent mindless knobs going or tagging along without a ticket then that is a small price to pay. I won't be going and it will be the first Palace game I have missed since Stamford Bridge but having also witnessed the dregs of society mindlessly damaging cars and hurling abuse at anyone then I can't be bothered with the hassle. Perhaps if the Met had arrested those morons then they would already have a long ban from football!!!!

I well remember the Shoreham protests against the veal trucks some 20-odd years ago. Sussex police were great but when a few nutters turned up and smashed a couple of windows the mets turned up in large numbers, full riot gear and proceeded to baton charge everyone, women, elderly and children alike. This continued for the next few nights, even after the rent-a-mob had buggered off somewhere else. Sussex police would mingle and were firm but fair, Mets would line up with shields dressed up like robocop wannabees, one tic away from a full charge. I've always been wary of the mets since then, there was no justification for that heavy-handed approach.

I was there for that and about 5 meters from the front. The Met Old bill grabbed some old boys walking stick and threw it over a hedge. He must have been about 75.

I'm amazed that anyone is surprised by this. We have a combination of the most corrupt and racist Police department in the Met, with the laughably innept and incompetent Sussex Police trying to organise this potential melting pot.

The fact they are wetting the bed over it already is no surprise to me.

Are we treating them as shite when they (if) they come to us. Hope they are not allowed into Brighton at all, frog matched from the station straight to Falmer and then away again. Hereded like sheep. Keep in for 2 hours after and not allowed to drink beer at all. Sod em.

& it rains. They can't handle the rain.
