I remember going into the pub and being blown away by wolves and west brom having a pint together, a group of saints and pompey fans doing much the same. We should NEVER forget that day and what fans of so many other clubs did for us.

It was goals scored for that season only I think. Still gave us the edge though!

Because at the time they were in trouble too position wise. A few of their fans that I have to talk to in my work are adamant that holding Fans United against relegation rivals was grossly unfair, and to be honest the 5-0 scoreline sort of shows that.

It all started here...

"I see the scum FA have now taken 2 points who do they think they are they wouldn't do this to Man United. It makes me sick what is happening to your club and it's an insult to your fans. I'm a Plymouth fan and I think that one week when we're away I'm going to come up and support your protest. I think it would be a good idea if LOADS of fans from different clubs turned up at Brighton (with their shirts on) and joined in it would show that we're all behind you 100%"

Thanks for the shout out. Not always a given when Fans United is mentioned - tsk! Hat tip to ManxSeagull too, though.

At the time of the game they were 16 points clear of us. It's not our fault they imploded at the end of the season.

At the end of the season, we had a goal difference of -17 and Hereford had a goal difference of -15. Crucially, we had scored 53 against Hereford's 50. So the Hartlepool game WAS vital.

I knew it was something about the 5-0 that made the difference and if UEFA investigated match fixing that would have been one as no way were they winning or even drawing that one

All this luvvy duvvy stuff. Is this why we are so well respected by other clubs regarding a social event when attending games. Brighton being somewhere to attend to watch and discuss with opposing fans rather than just beat the hell out of them. And when the ultimate promotion arrives, will it all change?

Well... don't expect too much gratitude towards Manchester United if that's what you mean; sadly lacking in any presence that day (unless someone else can swear blind otherwise).

However, the club is the fans, and I'd like to think we're not changing our attitudes over this, irrespective of whatever division we're in.

We know who helped us most when we most needed it.

My Dad took me, never forget it, we were queuing to get in The North Stand and the gate somehow opened, not sure if it was kicked in! but the Old Man (R I P) grabbed my hand and we were in? Remember seeing Helen (Soccer AM) there and all in all a great day. I was hooked.

It's a shame for those of us who were too young to attend that there appears to be a lack of pictures from the day.
