Missing the next 2 England games so want a decent 24-48 hour football related trip to make up for it.

Thought about Germany but no fixtures tie in with the dates we want to go.

Looking at Spain, but it seems they only "confirm" fixtures around 2 weeks before the game, and as we are looking to go on a Sunday obviously don't want to go to a city where the game will be a Saturday or something. Anyone had any experience here, or is it literally wait 2 weeks before to book, or take a gamble? Was hoping they might do a month at a time but it really does look week on week.

We are thinking about Malaga, so hoping tickets will be easy and cheap

Try my local team Real Murcia, cheaper flights to Murcia or Alicante than Malaga plus you can pay on the gate great stadium football championship standard.

Went to watch Real Madrid a few years ago when Beckham and Zidane were playing for them against Sevilla with Frederic Kanute it was a brilliant game in a brilliant stadium with every seat heated spoiled by the fact that I had my pocket picked on the tube by an Eastern European woman, I think, and lost my passport. Tickets were easy to get on Saturday morning of the Sunday match.

Yes, recently went to see Barca play Athletic Bilbao. Cheaper to get tickets in town than to go via ticketmaster!

It's the TV scheduling that ensures that Spanish kick off times aren't confirmed until very late. Getting into games doesn't seem to be a problem, though, if you've done a bit of research and planning. I managed to get tickets on the day for an Atlético Madrid v Sevilla league game quite easily.

Damn - and we complain at the small amount of changes we get!

Cheers all, not to worried about being able to get tickets, got Barca ones from
a cash point over there once!

We went to Madrid on Friday and returned Monday leaving us the option to buy tickets for when ever the game was scheduled for subject to TV coverage. We booked flights and hotels before the kick off day and time was known. Tickets were easy to get at the stadium on Saturday morning it just meant a trip there which wasn't a problem as we did the stadium tour at the same time.

I think there's a Monday night La Liga match now - worth bearing in mind.

Espanyol have their own stadium now, it's just outside the city and its very nice. Personally, a better atmosphere than camp bore.

Games are normally changed each week to Saturday and Sunday, so can be risky if you are not about on a Saturday.

Barca home games are always on a Sunday, apart from the last game of the season which is on a Saturday.

Warning- that's not so. And if they (or any other of the Spanish teams) are playing in the Champions League the following week they will DEFINITELY play on Saturday.

Malaga has a very high percentage of season ticket holders and is not a specially large ground, so it might not be as easy to get a ticket for their game as you think.

If you don't know the kick off times before you book something then go to Madrid, as then you've got a choice between Real, Atletico, Getafe and Rayo Vallecano, or you could then get a train to another place in an emergency.

Went to see Real Sociedad vs Sporting Gijon. Not quite a derby match but close. Cracking atmosphere. Anoeta is a strange stadium but fairly cheap I think. Problem is its a coach ride from the nearest airport (Bilbao). However, much nicer city.

Have seen the mighty Real Valladolid on more than one occasion. Suggest you check out soccer-spain.com, it's got a handy guide to tickets, and a section which explains exactly why and when most games' kick-off times are set.
