The league cup has done away with replays so why not the FA cup all I've heard this weekend is they or both clubs wont want a replay just heard it again now on the Arsenal game v Swansea on sky sports news no clubs want them the fans cant afford them( low enough gates for just one game let alone a replay ) would be more exciting turning up for an FA cup tie knowing your gonna witness a final result by going to a penalty shoot out after extra time

I'd like it to be settled on the day as we play enough games as it is but more so the FA should think about us fans who just cant afford replays. I know replays can be exciting if you get a draw against Man Utd and a visit to their ground but travelling to say Rochdale on a Tuesday evening is a no.

Should be like the leauge cup.

I think they could try it out for Premier League teams drawing against other Premier League sides.

Whereas, if you're Plymouth and you manage a draw at home to Man Utd, you wouldn't want to turn down a replay at Old Trafford. Or if you are Plymouth and you manage a draw away to Man Utd, you'd probably prefer a replay.

I'd Agree with that the smaller clubs shouldn't be deprived of a lucrative replay

I DO believe (but I await correction) that there is actually a mechanism in the FA Cup rules to allow clubs to decide to settle it 'on the day'. I vaguely remember hearing Fergie mention it once. It's more for the little clubs playing in August in the 1st Qualifying round and things like that, but it can be invoked in later rounds. Basically both clubs have to agree beforehand that the tie will be settled on the day with extra time and penalties if necessary - which means of course that the away team never gets the chance to 'take them back to our place'. I don't know if I'm talking out of my arse or if it IS true whether it's ever been invoked and I can't be arsed to google it.

Nail on head. Except replays would either have to stay or go, you can't have a mix. They should not change it imo, a lucrative reply for a lower league team can sometimes be the lifeline for them, not to mention a big day out for the fans.

If it's not true would be a good idea if both teams agreed not to have a replay then so be it

i think a lareg part of the charm of the FA Cup is the replay. the little club holds out for a draw, either to get their big away day if they drawn at home or to take the bigger club back to their patch and level things up a bit and sneak a win.

what happens in the League cup doesnt matter, its a waste of time no one other than the finalists care about.

Little teams love replays. Especially if its away to a big club. ££££££££££ kerching!

Things shouldnt always be aimed towards the big boys.

I think you can have a mix. After all, it's accepted that top flight teams enter the competition later than, say, a League Two side. The only difference is that this rule would be new but in time it would eventually be accepted as part of FA Cup tradition.

So if we were in the prem and reached the q-finals and we were drawn away to chelsea and sneaked a draw by holding out for 90 minutes (0-0) you'd rather play extra time than take them back home to give the advantage to us?

Replays should stay!

That's why I agreed with goldstone rappers post thought it was a good idea an all prem or all championship game no replay but a smaller club would be awarded a replay if say Barnet got a draw at Liverpool

Absolutely not. Keep it as it is. In fact, I think the penalty shootout option is an abomination. If I was in charge, Id revert to the replays until a result, that we used to have.

Or instead of a replay and losing 4-0 to man utd ( in an anti climax way ) we could of beaten them on the day after the 2-2 game on pens

This. Combined with postponements because of deep snow, prolonged repeated replays used to give us great moments such as ...

... FA Cup Sixth Round Draw

Sutton United or Hinckley Town or Plymouth Argyle or Manchester United or Chelsea will play Arsenal or Bath City or Torquay United or Manchester City.

Millions of fans hoping for a trip to Hinckley or Old Trafford to win a place in the semi-final.

I'm just trying to imagine us in the Premier League. We'd probably have quite a lot of international players by then. I think, on balance, although extra-time would be gruelling, I would prefer that to putting the players through another match in the season. Compared to now, a cup game against Chelsea at home wouldn't be as exciting when we are playing the Arsenals, Liverpools, Man Utds and Evertons of the world every few weeks.
