There seems to be a split of opinion on NSC (Whats new?), would you rather promotion this season or a continued progress with more ups than downs put potential for a better long term future?

When you look at the derby's, forrest's, cardiff's who have been trying it for years. I would say get the chance and take it. How much longer will the bridge's, kooch's hang around if we don't go up soon. Worst case scenario plenty of money for coming back down.

Exactly - it's so hard to progress gradually, when your better players leave each year. So we stay down and lose Bridge, Bruno, Bridcutt, Buckley etc. Just to stay still we have to replace them with similar quality, that's before even thinking of strengthening other areas.

if we went up this season we would get ripped apart every week. a solid finish this season, and then a promotion charge next would be sensible. but saying that i would still be ecstatic if we made it this season...

Take West Brom as an example for how to do the correct way....slow and steady for me. Though actually what with the new Sky TV deal being made at the end of this season, it would be ideal if they went up now to cash in.

... and many more you can add to those three as well. We know what this league is about now and I can't see what having "n" more years in it will tell us. Also plenty of big names have actually gone in reverse and dropped down a league. The fact is that the teams that get promoted have hit the winning formula of investing wisely (not just the most) being consistent as well as getting a decent dose of luck. Even if we were in the league for 10 years before going up then we'd (as indeed all promoted teams are) be favourites for relegation and the very same things that got us promotion (wise buying, consistency, luck) will be things needed to survive ... then perhaps be able to build and stay there (a la Fulham, Stoke)

Bring it on .. the sooner the better .. anyone thinking this league is going to be any less competitive in the future or easier because we've got experience, is mistaken imo

Promotion! It's where the money is. Even if we come straight back down, parachute payments could be used to prepare the squad for a proper assault next time round. ££££££££££££££!

Our defence will need work next year whatever , In the prem a defence including Greer 33 , Bruno 33 and Bridge 33 would be risky. Even if you discount the ages the chances are we will need a new LB and we need a decent CB who fits better into our style at this level.

As mentioned some teams have spent years and loads of money not getting out this division so progress is not a given.

Yes, and fact is that most of the squad will turnover every 2 years or so as the successful combination is sought, players age and Managers turn over. I think a team that succeeds in promotion (success = not getting relegated) gets promoted with 4 or 5 players capable of competing in the Prem and is not forced to go out and buy a completely new team. In that respect we're maybe a little light but in season 1 I can see Kooshack, Bruno, Bridcutt, and Buckley all holding there own and Bridge too if we had him. That may or may not be true in a years time - certainly have to wonder about Bruno and Bridge

Whatever you think we SHOULD do, we ARE definitely aiming for Option 2. I'm happy with that.

Not necessarily, the signings in the January window will make it clearer as to whether Bloom has a slow burning ambition or is gonna gamble on going for it this season. What is clear is that contrary to some of the shite on here it's a win/win situation.

Going up then back down again gives you parachute payments but you lose a lot of momentum and lots of your players. None of the teams that got relegated this year are anywhere near the top, despite teams like Blackburn spending £8 million on one player. We have to improve the squad gradually, sadly a lot of the jcl's want instant success are start booing etc if we aren't in the top 6, which doesn't help anyone.

But to go up this year we all agree we would likely need to spend big is it worth the risk if we don't make it?
