Gotta love hindsight! :moo:

Anyway, for any Albion fans questioning Palace's boards ambition, have a read of this and think again:

Why the challenge of living the Crystal Palace dream was too good to turn down - Ian Holloway - Mirror Online

What exactly is he saying that would prove the doubters on here wrong, though?

-He asked for no guarantees that Zaha would stay and says nothing about getting them anyway. So, the people who are suggestion Zaha is off in January aren't being shown to be wrong. n fact he emphasises his work improving blackpool after their star players left, as if he i prepared for him to go.
-He mentions they sold him on a dream, not a plan. A dream. It doesn't read like the board showed him the designs of this new stadium. This idea that the re-developed stadium is an dream is therefore not shown to be wrong. In fact, it is mentioned that the redevelopment will only occur if Holloway can fill the stadium regularly.
-They spoke about taking the club back to the premier league. Great soundbite, but, every club in the championship talks about going to the premier league. Even if with the likes of Ipswich it's "we're in a relegation fight, this season we can forget about taking the club back to the premier league".

It's basically a fluff piece. It doesn't really do anything to answer the criticisms I most see on here about your board and their ambitions.

I think the appointment of Ollie shows clear ambition from the owners. We could of gone for a cheap option but no, we have gone out and got one of the best managers outside of the Premiership. The fact that he has joined us also shows that he is impressed by our plans for the future, he could of had his pick of a number of jobs.

We all know that Zaha will go sooner rather than later but we will get a lot of money to compensate that. I rate the chances of him going in January as pretty low, there is no logic behind selling him if we are in the promotion mix up in Jan. Wilf has time and time and again said how happy he is at Palace and at his young age he knows that he has plenty of time left to get to the Premiership. Hopefully it's with us!

Clear ambition going for a manager who's done well at one club? You're on the wrong forum btw.

I think Holloway was told Zaha is off for about 10 mill and he will get a fair whack of that to spend in January. Very tempting for any manager. Great signing for Palace as he is proven to get a poor set of players performing above their level. Palace really are pretty rubbish man for man if you remove winifred and muzza but have got a good team ethic going.

The hilarious whining of Brighton fans on this thread is hilarious, lets face it what matters is that they are much better on the pith than us at the moment with a decent manager and a squad that has beaten most of the 'top' teams in this Division to the point where they must be considered one of the best teams themselves. It would be better for all of you if you just accepted it and moved on. You can go on about grounds or attendances but I'd much rather we were on their league position with the style of play they are enjoying. That's what really matters not the willy waving contest about attendances.

And indeed why our manager has failed to get consistent results despite 10m he has spent since we've been in the Chanpionship.

Gus has done 'well' at 1 club and you talk of him as if he's Mourinho. JAT.
And Holloway also did well at Qpr and Bristol Rovers so not sure what you mean? His stint at Blackpool can hardly be under estimated, he did a FANTASTIC job on a small budget.

Sorry but you truly are underestimating the rest of our players. How many times have you seen us play other than 30 seconds each week on the FLS?

I agree with Deletebeep. If we're lucky with injuries and suspensions and manage to get into the Prem then we will get 7,000 plastics join us. We only go on about your plastics and JCLs because of your constant bragging about attendances. It's about what's on the pitch. At the moment we're playing better than you. Earlier in the season you were better than us. I suspect they'll be many twists in the tale left this season. However stop bragging about the attendances which are artificially inflated at the moment and we'll stop going on about them being plastic.

Zaha isn't going in January. Our chairmen have said so.

Man for man, our squad is seriously good. Speroni is a fantastic keeper, Ward and Parr are great fullbacks, Jedinak is the best central midfielder in the league, Williams is a fantastic talent, Bolasie has been almost as good as Zaha recently, obviously Wilfried and Glenn are scoring most of the goals but it's a real team effort.

The idea that we don't have good individuals is ridiculous. We have very good individuals at this level, and an even better team. The way they're playing at the moment, most of our team wouldn't look out of place in the top flight.

Go find where I've posted that gus is Mourinho you silly little melt boy Silurian, this is the FIRST managers job gus has had. Ask Leicester fans their view on Ollie

Seeing as your lot only see getting to the prem as doing a good job even a thicket such as yourself can work out what I'm getting at.

Thought Dougie was "palace through and through" and would never leave

I didn't say you personally, I meant the general bumming of Gustavo on these boards, until a few weeks ago he was the best thing since sliced bread then one dip in form and there's Gus out threads everywhere.

Are you honestly now saying that Gus is a better manager than Holloway?? Do me a favour. Gus has one promotion from a dross league, he inherited an under-performing team with decent players and to be honest any manager that has Muzza and Elliott Bennett could get promotion from League One! He's also spent a shit load since your promotion and you're hardly pulling up tree's are you?!

In regards to Ollie's time at Leicester, he has admitted his mistakes there and learnt a hell of a lot from it. He went there with a total different outlook to football to the one he has now. That team that went down was ultra defensive (they had the best defence in the league in fact and they still went down) After his time at Leicester he completely re-evaluated how he thought football should be played and in his time at Blackpool he produced no fear attacking football that was great on the eye. In his first season with them they were relegation favourites but he took them up on a shoestring budget. In the Prem, he was 30 minutes from survival despite the whole squad having a max wage cap of 10k per person, per week. Last year he made the play off final. He'll do us just fine thanks and I have no doubts that he will bring his attacking style to us and with quality offensive players like Zaha, Williams, Bolasie and Murray we should thrive.

I can assure you I'm not Silurian but he does post a lot of sense. What's with the insults? You're rather immature for a person in there forties...???

If you didn't mean me personally why quote me?

Have I said or even hinted that gus is better than Ollie?

The insults are because you lot were nowhere to be seen a month ago, now you have a run if good form you infest this forum, and also because I believe the Silurian/bustersdad and you are the same person and the experience I have of him/you is that he is a prize bell end.

When I said 'you' I meant Albion fans as a whole. So a misunderstanding, no biggie.

You posted this about Ollie: "Clear ambition going for a manager who's done well at one club?." That to me implies you don't rate him at all therefore sounds like you rate Gus ahead of him as you're normally quite pro Poyet.

Nowhere to be seen a month ago? We have been unbeaten for 2 months mate! I think a lot of Palace were here when we were shit, it's always nice to put you deluded weeds in place :lolol:

Sorry if I missed something

So if Palace was too good to turn down for Holloway, why did Freedman leave ?

Also after speaking to a group of Blackpool fans last week I don't think he will be missed and they believed he was on his way out anyway after a series of bust ups with their chairman and lack of funds.

Great line from that article from Holloway - "They said that they would redevelop Selhurst Park if I could produce football good enough to fill it."

What must he have been thinking when we wandered onto the pitch at halftime and saw 10,000 empty seats - sitting third in the league and with a run of 11 undefeated and they couldn't muster 17k and he will have a real eye opener on tuesday night against Ipswich when the gate drops by about 2k.

Talk about an impossible mission statement :lolol::lolol::lolol: - perhaps CPFC2010 could invite Southampton to play at Selhurst every fortnight so Olly can see 20k fans in the old shitpit.

Bolton are a bigger club than us, have a nicer stadium and a bigger budget. Couple that with the fact that Freedman was offered £500k a year at Bolton, it's not that big a siprise he left. Our board weren't prepared to match that given he is an unproven manager which I think is reasonable. I'd guess we are paying around that mark for Holloway but he is a proven and far more experienced manager.

Jedinak is the best central midfielder in the league

Would you have said the same thing after your third defeat on the bounce at the start of the season?
