I am now seriously thinking about emigrating. But where to?

I was growing sick of the degeneration of Britain even before the latest trouble. But now I see that even a conservative PM would rather see anarchy than have the troops sort out the scumbags.
The target country needs to have English as its main language but I'm 53, so New Zealand won't want me. Australia has too many poisonous creatures and water shortages for my liking whilst Canada is too freakin' cold! South Africa and Belize are crime-ridden too, whilst the Falklands are too conservative for me. So, is there any alternative to Gibraltar?

Australia would be my choice, despite the creepy crawlies and drought.......land of opportunities (compared to UK anyway).

I live in Czech. Dont speak the lingo but there are many English speaking company's here. Cost of living is very low and its cheap and easy to get back to the UK.

My sister and her husband moved to Canada a few years ago with their kids and they love it, in the winter the kids love it for snowboarding etc and in the summer its lovely. Only problem is everything is at least a drive away from residential areas, you can't walk anywhere.

Stay here you wet blanket, or just move to Cornwall they won't be having any riots down there, not that you have actually had any in Mansfield.

Why do you need English as the first language? Most of the world speaks english as a second language now anyway.

In the last few years I have been to Thailand, Italy, Greece, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Holland and Lebanon. I also live in Cyprus. I've had no trouble using English in any of them.

As soon as I finish my degree I'm planning on going either to Canada, or somewhere like Germany/Netherlands/Switzerland. In Holland, so I've been told, you don't need to learn a word of Dutch as they all speak such good English, even the cleaners. But then I'd be looking more at career opportunities rather than somewhere nice to emigrate to, so they might not tick your boxes.

Unfortunately the Aussies will only take you if you're skilled in something they want.

Sadly your criteria leave you with little choice. It's the English speaking bit that;s the problem.

I've been looking at leaving these shores for a while now as the ONLY thing keeping me here is the Albion.

So far I've come to the conclusion that Denmark or Sweden make the most sense and whilst I would need to learn the language if I wanted to be fully integrated, it isn't difficult to get by with just English, as EVERYONE in Scandinavia speaks English.

Not particularly warm places, sadly, but their politics make a great deal of sense

Seeing as most people live around the coast of Oz they don't see the really nasty bugs and beasties that live in the Bush (dunny spiders excepted) - could quite easily live in Australia, Canada or the Cape Region of Seth Efrica, haven't visited New Zealand yet....

If you can be bothered to learn another language, Italy would do me nicely, best combination of weather, scenery, food & wine plus a laid back populace (their economy is also on its arse but you don't catch them rioting do you?).

The never ending Soap Opera of their politicians also good for a laugh. :lolol:

Canada's only cold in the winter to be fair, they have lovely summers!

Go with Canada, if I was in a position to move there I'd be off like a shot. Canada has most of the advantages of an American life style without the majority of the disadvantages. They have a lot of snow (although not so much in British Columbia), they have a health system, a welfare system that unlike the US actually works and they have a decent education system. They have loads of space 3.4 people per square kilometre as against the Uk's 255.6 per square kilometre. They have as many guns per capita and the US but a fraction of the crime. Unlike Australia apart from a few rattlesnakes in rural areas they don't have anything that likely to bite you. Oh, unlike some Australians they are very pro British (apart from the French speaking areas like Quebec.

Let's see the sun is shining, we have a fantastic new football stadium and a team that is going places and good old Sussex By the Sea is as lovely as ever.

No I won't be going anywhere, for more than two weeks at a time.

Meopham, Kent.
Isle of Wight.

Little ferry and a train journey from Amex, and yet the rest of the time you are living in a World that stopped in 1958.

Cape Town is very nice indeed. The crime thing is so overblown, mostly by people who have never been here. Sure, there is lots of crime but it's mostly in the townships and very poor areas where you will never need to go.
Today, it's still mid-winter, 25C and perfectly sunny and petrol about 85p a litre.
