It is part of the 'sport' called show jumping though isn't it? They don't do it as a stand alone event do they?

There are three three different sports:

1. Dressage (pure dressage - to music)

2. Show-jumping (8ft rails)

3. Three-day eventing (where the horse and rider perform in three disciplines ; dressage / cross-country / show-jumping)

I found out that in the early 1900s there was live pigeon shooting as part of the olympics.

And yes, it does look like some of you have beaten my effort

I'm a diver and I love it. It's not pointless, it's awesome. It's about seeing stuff that you wouldn't ordinarily see. Going where the human body doesn't allow you to go.

Live Pigeon Shooting at the Olympics

Live Pigeon Shooting

Live Pigeon Shooting was held only once in Olympic history, in 1900. The object of this event was to shoot and kill as many birds as possible. This was the first and only time in Olympic history when animals were killed on purpose. The birds were released in front of a participant and the winner was the competitor who shot down the most birds from the sky. The participant was eliminated once they missed two birds. Nearly 300 birds were killed. The event turned out to be quite messy in the end with dead or injured birds on the ground and blood and feathers all over the place. An award of 20,000 Francs was the prize for the winner, though the top four finishers agreed to split the winnings.

Results

Leon de Lunden (Belgium) 21 birds killed
Maurice Faure (France) 20 birds killed
Donald MacIntosh (Australia) 18 birds killed

Are horses allowed to go scuba diving if they want to?

Exactly. Totally pointless.

The 50km walk, sorry, mince.

You don't think that walking 50km at maximum walking pace is worthy of some sort of recognition? I would have thought that your name would suggest that any form of walking further than the nearest pub or train station would leave you feeling slightly impressed.
