I've also been a couple of times and found the people there extremely hostile to outsiders and generally unfriendly.

Generally I find the south of Italy (Anywhere south of Lazio) a horrible place to visit (based on the locals rather than the landscape) and have had a lot of bad experiences down there...

Italian hoolies really don't like Liverpewl. Heysel still raw in the mind.

Can't blame them though really.

Bit of an overreaction. Sure I'd be pissed off if some spotty, scrounging pasty-faced bindipper on tour was stealing pizza off my plate, but I wouldn't get all stabby-stabby over it.

Mum was born near Naples. The south is a totally different culture. Never had any real problems when your with relatives.

However the time I travelled from Rome to Naples on the train, someone tried nabbing my wallet. I got it back in the end. One of the other passengers slapped the guy round the back of the head and kicked him through the carriage.

Another time in Naples, I saw two guys pull up on the side of the road and pinch this guys bag. Next thing I know this guy draws a gun and starts shooting at the guys on the Vespa. Never been so shit up in my life.

The Italians like a good stabbing don't they? It seems to happen every time an English team play there.

We'll have to remember that when we're in Europe!

Went to Naples/Salerno not long after Heysel and got cornered by a group of Naples supporters on the train to Salerno..Was gonna say i was an Aussie to avoid any agro but couldn't bring myself to do that!

After saying i was English, handshakes all round was the order of the day and a big thank-you for what 'we' did to the Juve supporters!!

Various 'Viva Liverpool' graffiti along the way too.

If your with relatives it's probably very different down there... I've been robbed myself just south of Salerno. Took my f***ing laptop, credit cards, my girlfriends laptop and ipod :tantrum: The worst bit was that the laptop had about 4 months worth of photographs from our road trip on it which we stupidly hadn't backed up anywhere

They are robbing bastards some of them. Don't leave your English car in Naples either. They would always try it on with my dad once they saw the plate. The deal with them was, give us the keys and some Lire and we will park you car in a safe place and bring it back to you once you return. As soon as my mum spoke it was game over.
