There's a small place opposite Canhams Butchers on Church Road Hove , which always seems to have the best rates when I've looked round .

Croydon. One hundred bags of pegs and a sack of lucky heather is the same as one caravan.

If you've got a few days to get your cash I'd recommend using Crown Currency online.

Ignore the "commission free" supermarkets enticement, they make there money from giving a poor exchange rate. If you are changing a few thousand then check the current exchange rate and find the place that is nearest to that.

Its a bit like driving 20 miles out of your way to save 1p on the litre petrol if your nearest currency exchange place will give you €115 for £100 is it worth going further afield to get €118

I would go to ship street and change a small amount, then change the rest when you are away as at the moment other countries pay good euros rates for the pound.
Example:Got 118 at ship street,when i arrived in Mollorca i got 129.

It all depends on how much you want to change.

If its over £2k you can get a much better exchange rate if you haggle, normally the big travel agents (first choice, thomas cook) buy it at a very good rate, say 135 to the £ and then obviously put it in the shops at 120 to the £ and still making very good profit on it. obviously its not advisable to change £2k cash but to send a western union.

if your only talking a couple of hundred then the coin shop and then the rest when your away as you will get a much better rate.

I've always found taking as little as possible, then using your maestro/visa debit card in a local cash point to be the cheapest rate of exchange for Euro's. Check with your bank, but done this way there is no commission, and usually a good rate (at least that is what I have found).

Just remember you will pay a charge each time you withdraw cash to the foreign bank and maybe a charge by your bank as well, you could be charged up to £5 for each withdrawal with the two.

Not in my experience, as long as the cash issuing bank is with your debit card supplier i.e. maestro or visa, then that is part of the service of having that associated with your card. I would always check with your bank, but whenever I've withdrawn abroad, it's always on my statement with the exhange rate only, no additional charges.
