aaaaarrrrrrrrggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh.

GUS POYET WILL BE FULLY AWARE OF THAT FACT AND IS MOST LIKELY DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT. How many times does it need to be written on this board?

I am unsure as to the reason I want this new striker to arrive the most - to see him play, score lots of goals and win matches, or to end these monotous repetitive moans that we desperately need one.

Clearly the former, but sometimes only just!

:lolol:

Don't be so SENSIBLE! We should be OUT there, spending MILLIONS on players, all of whom will be BEGGING to play at Withdean :lolol:

We won't get promoted with the three we have. Only one is capable of scoring 15 goals.

Exactly, we have one striker capable of reaching double figures, we're going no-were with them.

He's had ALL summer to do something about it, what makes you think we will get a striker in the next few days?

True

Buck stops at him if we don't get anyone
3 months is long enough I would of thought

He doesn't say that. He just says that Gus is presumably trying.

You lot seem to think that just because you don't hear anything, it must mean the club aren't bothering. Whereas in reality they're probably making calls left, right and centre to try and get someone in. Gus wants to keep his job like anyone else, why wouldn't he try? He's probably asked about loads of players, but they've turned us down, or their clubs have.

The fact is, at the moment we are an average third division team, paying average wages, playing in a shit stadium. Even the most one-eyed Albion fan must be able to at least slightly grasp the reality of persuading a solid gold, guaranteed 25 goal a season man to come down here, Falmer or no Falmer.

Players would rather play at the Galpharn than Withdean at the moment. Next season I can see us being linked with bigger players, considering we will also be in the Championship :D

Absolutely. Next season we'll have 3 x the gates, be paying no expenses for withdean, and be generating more merchandise / associated profits from the AMEX.

It's fair to say the playing budget will be at least 3 x what it is now, even if we are still in league 1.

In the championship the TV revenue will be greater as well, if we get there.

So the signings next year will be of a much higher caliber to what we can afford now.

Because the last week of the transfer window is when a lot of deals go through, as agents run out of time trying to get the most for their clients and clubs realise who they will need and not need.

Lots of managers at Withdean have persuaded good strikers to sign and that was with less money and falmer further off

If Poyet is all that then he needs to prove it. Surely he is accountable for this.

Not a pop at Gus but lets be real here

Which strikers are you thinking of?

Because I'm referring to the sort of ones that are routinely being thrown about on NSC, the likes of Alan Lee, for argument's sake, proven Championship level strikers.

Not unknown reserves from lower league clubs (Zamora), or ageing but good-for-15 goals veterans like Forster, before you say it.

Edna, to be clear about this, i wasn't suggesting we should have tried to sign Alan Lee! It was a comment on Huddersfield's seemingly relentless mission to sign every forward outside the top flight. Half a million for a 32 year old on big wages? Not for us thanks.

No, I know you weren't, but a lot of people on here seem to complain either that we're not trying to sign anyone, which is a plainly ridiculous idea, or that we're not in for certain players which we would in all probability have little chance of signing anyway.

Huddersfield are taking the Leeds approach this season: buy all the strikers going, then even if they're not playing and scoring for you, at least none of the other clubs in the league will have them.

I'm not refering to the ones routinely thrown around on NSC / proven championship .

I'm talking about players that can do a job in L1 to help a team into the play offs.
Lets assume Murray is the main man then what we need would be a 15 goal sriker.
I haven't the full list of Withdean strikers but there must be half a dozen that have been signed over the years that can do this.

What I'm saying is , it isn't an impossible job that has never happened before. I'm certainly not calling for Gus's head or anything stupid as the bloke is quality. However, if we get no striker in by end of August then he has to be accountable.
No need to go into Dickinson and Forster history as been done but facts are if he is going to succeed in management then 3 months to find a 15 goal striker should be well withing his talents considering the budget is there for this type of player.
To sign no one means he has total faith in Barnes and our plan B, I'm saying he needs to be accountable if he does this as this is a failure.

After Murray , even strikers making up numbers is better than nothing

Keeping the faith and crossing fingers but squeeky bum time as I believe the season hinges on who we sign

Further, i would add that while we clearly need another striker, I would be concerned that bringing one in on wages that eclipse our highest earners could have a detrimental effect ultimately. Glenn Murray, for example, doesn't take a lot of unsettling. Contrary to Gus's expressed wishes, I'd not be averse to a loan signing for the reason stated herein. Unlike many on here though, I have faith in Tony Bloom in particular to do the right thing. There won't be a shrewder Chairman in football.

to be honest I think that Gus and Mr Bloom are just showing their lack of experience a little when talking up promotion chances and promising 2 players in by the weekend or whatever they did and I think that's what get's people moaning when it doesn't happen. They're just 'learning the ropes' but I'm sure it'll come good in the end.
