brilliant thread!!! im 39 and grew up in london so was just a bit too young for all this . it feels like i missed out on something but its probably for the best judging by some of the stories on here.

however i do love the clothes and have done for years . have loads of old tacchini , fila , lyle and sott, borg elites, zx500 and pringle stuff etc etc in my wardrobe. i went to an 80's fancy dress the other day and the mrs said just wear your normal clothes.

another sad thing i realised , is it sad? i dont know really. we have a big game on saturday and, just like your wife girlfriend will buy something new for xmas or a party, i have bought a new top for the villa game.

i think i really should have been 5 years older, moved to sussex earlier and got involved. it seems like a lot of fun, although i wouldnt have liked to have ripped the clothes or scuffed up the elites

only had a couple of 'incidents' reallly one with a pompey fan and one a cambridge fan. came out on top in both.

great work everyone , keep it coming .
it wasnt just down here danny, where in london did you grow up ?

Sammy Gordon was around in the late 80's early 90's, then I thought it changed to Froggat. Stunning Rags was on Western Rd, and I think Target was in North St.
CheapJacks, the name rings a bell, but I can't recall where it was

Cheapjacks , I think was an act of fictitious invention by Bushy to erk me...

You know Matelot's, scruffy bastards at the best of times:lol:
Speak for yourself shipmate!

There were a few of us in the mob based in Pompey, I remember a few of us going up to Aldershot around '85 for a league cup game 2nd leg & we were well ahead on aggregate, then it all went Pete Tong up at their place. We all ended up on the pitch toe to toe with f***ing Para's!
WSF were there & there is one guy who I still see at Withdean getting stuck in with his brolly.....designer of course!

Imagination was near the Clock Tower, if you left the shop without buying he would chase you down the road trying to get you to part with your money.

Sammy Gordons, Stunning Rags and Imagination all owned by the 'Gordon' family.

Might be a bit earlier but up North Street, was it Peter Browns, great fot tonic strides and jackets, Ben Shermans and Leon Patons, and Levi Sta-press.
There was also one down the stairs in Churchill Square and another in the Arcade off East st but cant remember their names.
Was wearing by best tonic jacket when I pulled a bird in the Abinger, took her across the road by the then still standing West pier, and laid my jacket on the pebbles for her and lost my cherry there.
Was absolutely gutted next morning when my mum asked how I managed to get oil on my favorite jacket......gutted.......and she wasnt that great either.

Are you thinking of the place that was opposite Tesco? It was always getting smash and grabbed as it was the easiest place to get away from - not that I ever did that kind of thing
Can't recall its name though..

Yes, thats the one, great clobber but cant remember the name of it.

Right that makes sense. Imagination was by the Clock Tower. The connected shop was Stunning Rags by Norflk Sq. And Sammy Gordons was on North st.

And you are right they did pressurise the sale.
