Beautiful British act. Seen him 4 times which is actually quite enough. But I highly recommend going to see him, champion couple of hours...

I just got 4 front row seats

You must be a glutton for punishment then as he will rip the piss out of you. A sensible person would have booked seats safely in the middle of the theatre.

Will be good to see a new show from him and how his new 'prime time' TV audience cope with him giving it both barrels.

Yes, if his live show is the same as it used to be, which is quite different from TV.

We went to see him when he was just getting famous (10 years ago?) and he had a long run in a small theatre in the West End. The seats at the front were actually round small tables, set up like a comedy club rather than a show.

Anyway - he latched onto my brothers goatee beard (we were sitting at the front)

He wouldn't let it drop and finished it off with "you're the type of c*nt who comes into my pub and tries to order french f*cking onion soup.."

It was a far more adult act that he'd get away from on TV and it was far more obvious that he taking the piss out of people like him, rather than slightly pandering to people with bigoted views. It's just that I know people who are very much like the character and they think he's hilarious -they are somewhat missing the point.

It's the Alf Garnett effect.

What he said.

I saw him at the Komedia in Manchester Street in 1996. In front of 25 unsuspecting people, he comes across as a bit of a wanker having a rant, and the irony is totally lost on everyone.

In front of a big audience, it can be quite funny.

Quite. You'd think he'd have at least had some kind of second string to his bow by now. A second comedy character even. Fuckit, The Fast Show churned them out by the dozen. Al Murray is patently stuck in some kind of so-so comedy ghetto, with no obvious way out. And it wasn't even very funny to start with. Oh well
