Wouldn't be much point in loaning him back to Boca - their season doesn't start now until the middle of May.
True but you know what I meant, it is the point that matters - we’d not be signing a player as a loan player and keeping him at Brighton just because he arrived late - we would make an immediate loan arrangement that allows him to play the international duty first - or we would be keeping him at Brighton because we thought it would be the best club to develop him further.

Anyway, it is a moot point IMO because I literally cannot see how given his abilities and versatility, we would not at least be wanting him to debut with the first team and see how he gets on before sending him anywhere regardless of when he arrives.

Btw we haven’t seen a picture of him holding up a Brighton shirt yet, are you in an early celebratory mood today 🙂🙂!?

I'm sure the club take into account the player's welfare, and also consider how best to help him settle in a new country half a world away. Maybe such considerations have already been discussed with Barco and his family.

They would do that anyway with any young player. I just don’t think we signed him to be a loanee player that’s all - nothing to do with him arriving in February rather than January. We would at least give someone of his calibre half a season before we made a decision to loan him out. He’s up to Facu’s standards when he arrived, better probably than Mackie was at that age.

Look at our make shift line ups lately and our benches

As things stand . He 100% will be at least on bench

If and when injuries ease a bit then that may change but no chance he would be sent out when we’ve played a lot of games with square pegs in round holes

Yes someone posted re a Boxa fanatic friend who said he has even played as a forward. If he can play on the left, he can play on the right wing-wise - see Solly March / Mitoma etc. Not sure he’ll have the physicality to play CM in this league yet. As the South American expert man said, we are good at finding positions that suit and it could be a new one like Ali Mac. I wouldn’t rule out anything with this lad yet position wise.

Buonanotte, Enciso, Alexis all found it tough to get used to PL football at first. Only Caicedo looked ready (and he’d been loaned out).

Barco needs experience and needs game time to develop - he’s played very little first team football - so saying that a loan is possibly part of the plan is just the obvious. Depends on the right club, the right time (now ? , the summer ? ) injuries, if he impresses RDZ etc. But hardly a surprise it’s being considered.

That said - My guess is he’ll train with the first team until at least the summer.
Mine too

I’m pretty sure if we keep Barco at Brighton for the first team squad when he is only loan standard, it won’t be just because he’s not arriving until February. A January window isn’t long enough to bring a player over, sort out the transfer certificates, relocate his family etc and give him a month to acclimatise himself with the club whether he arrives on the 2nd January or not. We already either think he’s ready to join the squad or he isn’t (notwithstanding he will need time to acclimate and bed in anyway if we keep him) I think if we were considering not having Barco in the squad but going straight out on loan, we would have done as we did with MacAllister and signed him from Boca, leaving him at Boca until the summer transfer window or loan him out to another team like Argentinos until the summer/longer if it was required - not drag the lad all the way over to England in the middle of the winter if we have no room for him in the first team. It may be that he doesn’t settle in/get up to PL condition by the summer, in which case it will be an option then like it was with Caceido.

Mac Allister had to go out on loan because he didn't qualify for a work permit. He was signed pre-brexit when it was a lot harder to get players in from South American countries. The changes to the points system and the promotion of competitions like the Copa Libertadores to be the same level as the Champions League when it came to consideration for a work permit meant we could recall him from Boca half way through his loan.

We won't have any work permit issues with Barco, if we are looking at a loan it will more than likely be in mainland Europe as we will need him to be playing now. My guess, like others, is a loan is a possibility but won't be until he's been around the first team squad. He'll get a similar path to what Enciso, Buonanotte and Ayari got. The rest of the season to work with the first team see how he gets on training day in day out and then make a decision in the summer about what pathway his development needs to follow.

A loan is possible.

If he is seen as a winger and being bought in the play in the forward line, well then by the time he gets here in late Feb, we'll likely have Mitoma, Adingra, Fati and Enciso to bolster the forward ranks.

However, if he is seen as in any way a full back, I can't see any logic in loaning him out

As I said then - several times 🤷🏻‍♂️

I was quoting your post to make the point about Alexis. The rest of my post was what I though would happen it had nothing to do with what you had posted, I actually acknowledged several others had made the same point. This board isn't your own personal soap box. You don't need to point out every time you've already said something that someone else repeats etc.

That is exactly what I said.

He is going to be given the rest of this season to get used to the new surroundings and methods of De Zerbi, get a house sorted, learn a bit of the language, and get some minutes before the end of the season. I think he will show enough in that time and pre season for no one to be thinking a loan out is a good idea for next season.
