Neither the AEK nor OM ultras were ever going to come to Brighton to cause trouble. Their culture means they find out about the history and attitudes of the clubs they play. They heard about our long battle to save our club and respect us hugely for that - and they know that we are from a progressive, inclusive city. I wasn’t surprised that the ‘worst’ bit of trouble I saw (and it really wasn’t a lot) was the slightly altered positioning of the barriers at the station by a few Ajax. They are a bit different, but still basically fine.

In this respect we have been very lucky with the draw so far. Let us hope that it continues, because there are some really nasty mobs left in the competition. What an achievement - well done one and all :)

I swapped scarves with a french lad on the train back. All seemed like an OK bunch.

Great that the club allowed them to bring in their flags, megaphones and presumably had limited searches given the number of flares that made it into the stadium

If only they were not so draconian with home support. Something for the head of security to consider maybe, presuming he is not totally preoccupied with the Post Office scandal inquiry laying out in public what a nasty piece of work he is
Oh really - didn't realise that connection. Doesnt surprise me though. Caveated of course by "club are working very hard on this, may seem easy to you but it is far more difficult than that, yadayadayadayada lickity lickity never wrong ever

I don't quite understand the club obviously allowing a pyro flare display from away fans yet have banned home fans for letting off harmless smoke bombs now and then,I presume that those banned at the moment if, any would be seriously pissed off and asking questions.

I wouldnt be surprised if the huge flags, megaphone and limited amount of pyro for authorised fan display members were pre requested by Marseille official supporters club and after discussion, permitted by Albion. I know we say no to this in England, but Marseille might have requested on the basis that this is their football culture in France and they have a trusted and authorised number of members who take responsibility for a pre-agreed number of pyros, and this way it will stop the masses trying to smuggle in their own pyro - seems like the only reasonable conclusion to me, bearing in mind the stewards/police didnt pile in and remove fans/pyros.
I would agree with most of that but I doubt that the pyros were sanctioned.

We've banned fans for far less than that unfortunately. Any excuse

If not for your sanity then for the rest of ours please give it up.

Havnt the club got answers to provide in 1. how 20ft flag poles made it past security 2. Pyros made it past presumably dogs to detect? In the meantime 109 bottle tops were confiscated.

Er, no.

Its a fact, its unpleasant and unnecessary. Why would I look the other way? There's an ignore function you can use if you wish.
Of course I don't wish to use it, I like many of your posts.

You clearly are never going to accept any responsibility for what happened, despite you personally being warned before entering the ground and not heeding that warning.
The club are never going to feel their actions were draconian, what with them handing out the identical punishment many, many times since.

So surely at some point you have to just move on, as opposed to looking for any and every post you can crowbar in another dig.

I'll tell you what. I'll use the ignore function. Maybe that will help.

Please do keep the blinkers on and ignore things to fit in if that works for you, but dont start whinging if you fall foul of someones whim.

Please do the same re the ignore function.

I apologise I shall refrain from commenting further - honestly no offence was meant.

Spoke to someone today who stayed right until the Marseille fans were let out and he reckons one of them squared up to a mounted police officer. Or more precisely, the horse.

Horse kicked out and the Marseille fan went to kick back. Copper sprayed him (and his mates) with gas.

Also told me that a load of Marseille came tearing towards the police line and were persuaded with riot shields to behave in a more orderly way.

No idea if this has been discussed elsewhere on here or is true. My informant is a little odd, but doesn't tend to make stuff up.
