People actually watching bands at gigs or talking to each other in pubs, instead of staring at their phones or posting stupid duck-faced selfies on Instagram.
Politics was less populist or polarised - and Thatcher had resigned.
House prices were affordable - 4 x average salary at most.
Going to university did not mean incurring £40-50,000 of debt
Britain was steadily becoming more tolerant of Gays, after the AIDS-fuelled homophobia and 'queer-bashing' of the 1980s.
