Surprisingly few decent Germans have played in the Premier League. But then again why would they when they can stay at home and play at the highest level too? I wonder how many Englishmen have played in Germany and what their goalscoring record is like in comparison.

It seems the most famous is Owen Hargreaves, and before 2017 there wasn't too many Englishman making the move to Germany at all.
Kevin Keegan. Big success over there

Aye you must be more youthful than many of us @GingerBeerMan(although GB seemed much more popular in my youth) - Keegan was deffo the trailblazer. When he went to Hamburg it was a bit of a shock and he did brilliantly before becoming a Geordie legend. He wasn’t the most naturally gifted footballer but his energy, industry and charisma ensured he became more successful than most. He too would probably have outjumped BDB!

I'd say the most famous was Keegan. He was the biggest name in English football at the time and his going to Hamburg was major news.

Tony Woodcock was pretty well-known too.
Good points, but that was before football was officially invented.

The Top Flight Time Machine look at Keegan ("The Keegan Odyssey") over 42 parts is incredible as an insight into his life (and full of very puerile, juvenile humour). There's even an 8 part Keegan Hamburg Odyssey they do: https://music.amazon.com/search/keegan+odyssey/episodes?filter=IsLibrary|false&sc=none

Their Roy Keane work is very funny too. Sam is a West Ham fan who lived in Brighton for a while and has a soft spot for the city and local info pops up from time to time. Probably my favourite podcast (I quite like puerile, juvenile humour).

Yes, indeed this was before my time! I wonder who the top scoring Englishman is Germany is, I suspect it's Bellingham based on being there a bit longer than most.

While Spain have had a few high profile English players I can't really recall any that went to Germany, I'm just wondering why it seems to be a less popular destination.

Considerably less money and prestige in the German league, simple as that.

If the Greek national league suddenly paid as much more than everybody else as the Premier League does now, then there'd be loads of English footballers turning out in the Greek league.
As it happens, that's not the case, so most of them play here still.

You do know who the manager of the Greek national team is?
