Wasn't/isn't he your big rival, Gaffer?

Another three and a bit for me this morning. It's a bit like the PL tracker on here some seasons, I'm inching my way over the 1,000-mile line to avoid relegation to the second tier...

Never ever ever beat him but I always dreamed........

Still a decent effort. I managed a 50km week last week for the first time in months with a mix of road and treadmill, with not too much protesting from the dodgy foot. Hoping to start extending my 'long' run a bit soon and see how it reacts. Speed and endurance is shite but faint signs of a returning mojo - glad I've managed to at least keep ticking over for the last 18 months+

There's life in the old Dazzer!
I've told myself for years not to get hung up on times – now I think I need to do the same with annual mileage! After a big (for me) 2020 and 2021, I think I expected that to carry on this year, but it hasn't happened for a number of reasons. Let's see what 2023 brings – although I'd like to get at least one long run in across the downs before NYE...

I'm obviously way down on mileage - essentially missing a weekly long run. Still been running typically 5x weekly but very little over an hour or so. Currently at 1,200 miles ish, would be closer to 2,000 in a 'normal' year. Used the elliptical trainer more as well to replace runs and keep pressure off the foot. Basically I have become a bit of a gym rat

Bloody Worthing!
Never ever ever beat him but I always dreamed........
Gasson was an old git legend. I avoided him quite successfully, but a short while back he turned up at Worthing parkrun. I closed in on him in the last 500m and stuck on his shoulder. With about 200m to go I thought it give it a go and overtook him. He then eased past me, still in 2nd gear. At the time I think he was about among the top 10 oldies in the country at 1500m. I never stood a chance!

Got the lurgy. Totally wiped out. Anyone else?
Eek – hope you feel better soon. Now might be a good time for you and @knocky1 to have a head-to-head!

What kind of lurgy? Covid was the only thing that really stopped me in my tracks – running-wise. With anything else, I tried to plough through. But 'there's a lot of it about', as they say, so I feel your pain.

How does the cold weather impact your performance , done 2 runs this week and both are about 55 seconds off where I normally am. Felt a lot lot harder.

Hoping it will benefit in the long run when warms back up

Lurgy here too. Had our running club xmas do last Friday and it seems half the club have been ill since then. My wife had it at the beginnig of the week, then my youngest and now me.

Annoyingly it's scuppered my plan to visit Worthing parkrun for the first time this weekend, when we're down visiting my parents, and attempt sub-18, well the weather too! Last year I ran 19:18 at my local parkrun and set myself the lofty goal of sub-18. Managed to get 18:21 early in the year, but attempts later in the year co-incided with very warm weather which I don't think suits m.

I always find the first mile the hardest in winter, burns the lungs a bit. Normally I do at least a mile warm up before any effort and I find that helps.
I tend not to worry about times during winter too much as I feel that as long as I keep the training to a reasonable level in winter, I’ll feel the benefit in spring.

Apologies for the delay in replying. Turns out it was indeed Covid. Agree with you: no way could I have ploughed through this one.
About 12 days most of which seem to have been spent coughing.

Just coming out of it. No running for 2 weeks but did a couple of (utterly pathetic) workouts on the rower.

Against Mrs GNT's orders I'll have a run out at Worthing tomorrow and see how it goes.......

Sorry to hear that. I'm sure you'll be fine but the first time I had it, it completely knocked me sideways afterwards. Couldn't get properly back into running for months. Next time, a few months ago, I was fine and out when I was back to negative. Odd.

Good luck tomorrow!

Good luck. I'll say take it easy but know you won't. 😆
I'm lurgied again so taking time off. Very happy with my step up in mileage prior to that even if it is slowing me down.

I've not really had anything to write about lately, especially as I haven't run for three weeks.

Anyway, I hauled myself out for a trot around Guildford parkrun in a sedate 22-ish minutes, probably not helped by Stoke Park having turned to mush in the thaw.

You were right: I didn't! 21.18 was almost a minute slower than of late but still very hard going.
Scraped over the 80% AG but such was today's standard, this was only the 13th best.
Get well soon!
