My comment was borne out of frustration and, as a lifelong fan, I meant no disrespect to Tony Bloom. At the beginning of the transfer window I knew, deep down, that we wouldn't be signing the additional striker we so clearly need, but I didn't think, for one minute, that we'd sell our top scorer for just £15M, and fail to replace him. It really does beggar belief to me and I suspect a lot of other Albion fans, too. As a club we've come a long, long way, and have improved every part of the team other than up front and I really don't understand why we appear to be unable to transact some decent business when it comes to strikers. Even if we had to pay £50-£60M for a striker of Premier League quality, it would be money well spent and would simply mean that we had re-invested the money we got from the sale of Cucurella - so it's not as if it would have cost us anything. Clearly, I'm missing something....

Yeah, you have. A striker in that price bracket will come with a larger pay packet. This has a knock on effect to his team mates, who think they deserve a bigger pay packet. When told their contract states they aren't getting a pay rise, it can lead to some bad feeling in the dressing room.
So in short, that price range means we won't be breaking our pay structure....just yet.

How much in wages would that striker demand?
How much would his agent demand from the club?
Would they want to join us?

Isak is paid by the Saudis, reportedly £120k to £200k a week. The sportswashers owners are worth £320b.

Jesus at Arsenal £270k a week.

Maybe we have faith in Undav and Enciso with no reports the latter is leaving on loan? Both on the bench Tuesday

I don’t think I’m entitled, I’m just not convinced he’s what we need right now. If he is the only signing we make today then we’ve not learnt the lessons from Tuesday night.
What about the lessons from the 3 games before?

Asking for a friend....

I don’t understand any negativity about this. Yes Norwich were rubbish but look back at the first half of caicedo’s season last year. His side were as bad. He has turned out okay.

Wow.

Just wow.

Just go and spend £50-60m on a striker?

There is no guarantee that spending £50-60m on one playing will bring success.

What happens if he gets injured in the first game and is out for the rest of the season? Very unlikely, granted, but not unrealistic.

Undav was bought in to replace NM, I believe. It was known the last 3rd of last season, there was unrest with NM over playing time.

Potter is so fluid that we have a number of attacking players that can play up top if needed so getting a new striker in really don't bother me.

I trust those in charge to know what they are doing, they have given us absolutely no reason to think that they have nothing but our best interest at heart.

Surprisingly, not much ‘good riddance’ bitchiness towards Billy.

Suppose it’s a lot easier to spend £60,000,000 when it’s not your money.

That’s such an irrelevant point and a cheap point to score/. This is a football forum, posters are fully entitled to express a view. If it’s only okay to make points if it’s ‘your’ money then literally other than Tony Bloom no one is entitled to an opinion.

When someone is demanding we spend £60m - it's surely relevant regarding how we afford that, and right now that is from TB's personal bank account. Not sure you operate a discussion in that regard without it being TB's money?

So we get Lamptey and Gilmour on perms and Colwill on loan for about 15 million and they get Cucu for nearly 65. That’ll do me to be honest.

Great signing and fantastic fee. Can't disguise how we've failed yet again to get a striker though

I may have a different view to you oh wise one but I'm no idiot.

I've already posted our net transfer dealings over 8 years or so, easy enough to look up. El Presidente posts regularly our accounts and finances. Yours wasn't a different view, it's just factually wrong and pretty ignorant given the information is freely available to you.

Pfffft.....that's nothing. I was miserable before I was even born.

You were lucky.

I was miserable in the body of the b'stard who died so I could be reincarnated as me.

I think it can only be because the club believe that we don't need one. Nothing else makes sense. But at least we've got lots of midfielders to play with.

You’re absolutely right. I reckon we should follow the Nottingham Forest way - get rid of the whole squad from last season, bung in TWENTY new signings and let’s see where we go with it. Sorry . . . . what’s that . . . . we just lost 6-0 to Man City?
