It's Neverspoons for me. I think everyone has to make a decision where they spend their money and I can't bring myself to support a businessman who so cynically supported Brexit because he calculated his punters wanted him to and then binned off all his staff at the first opportunity during the pandemic. That isn't a man I want to support.

So much disinformation on this thread and so much snobbery from our ‘right ons’ .
Still, it is to be expected, this is NSC.

Exactly this. I was in Horley overnight a month ago (en route to Costa Rica), traveling with 4 Spanish friends. We walked to Wetherspoons that evening to eat. They absolutel;y loved it! Fresh fried fish & chips, cheerfully served. A wide range of drinks, tastings of the beers offered, and accepted. Result is they fell in love with GK Abbot. They all wished there were similar establishments in Southern Spain. Yes, I kept them sober enough for their flight in the morning!

I find this incredible. Give me southern Spain any day. €1 for a beer with a pile of free tapas on the side.

Yes by paying staff £3-£4 an hour less than its competitors. Wetherspoons last time I checked don't even pay staff 'The Living Wage' and smug Tim Martin waffles on about the only 'recognised' wage is the minimum wage (which they do pay above), anything else is not relevant .

Prefer local independants and small breweries pubs, but get dragged in to Wetherspoons by friends, beer's cheap and a good range also knowledgeable friendly staff.

All served up by a dusky lady under a warm sun. Of course they prefer Horley ‘spoons

I don't like boris who although a remainer a heart saw the big career picture and did a "me first" u-turn, I don't like the politics of my boss but I still work for him. I hate the politics of the two faced tax "avoiding"traitor branson and all the state subsidies given during Covid but I still got on his aeroplane.

I hate the way amazon is destroying the high street ( particularly with the Sub JML crap from outlets on there) but I still have a Kindle .

I hate the way we are ripped off for everything from fuel to sewage by the foreign owned companies the reaped the benefits of privatisation as much as I hate the carpetbaggers that destroyed the Building Societies and fell for the "Tell Sid " con trick.

Life ain't that simple in a "free market " economy but it is the only one we have. We have to deal with consequences of " There is no such thing as Society " and I regard Martin as no worse than the others.

Went to a Spoons in Newcastle after the away game. Wouldn’t really have known………until the barmaid asked me for less than a fiver for 2 pints. Used to use the Crosse Keys in the City a lot too. Not a fan at all of their food, but for cheap beer and quick service (particularly with the App) can understand why they’re so popular - but I don’t like contributing to Martin’s wealth.

The Crosse Keys is one stunning interior, so fair play to Wetherspoons for preserving it.

Always enjoy Nicholson's pubs in London town also, decent beers and good pub grub at a reasonable price

A quick check suggests they actually pay more than their competitors.

Very low sample rate and it relies on people putting in the entry itself so open to manipulation

This is actually from Wetherspoons own table:

SPOONS.jpg

Plenty of pubs are £9-£11 per hour as advertised right now.

More misinformation. Simply factually wrong. I get that you don't like this chain or its owner, but there is no reason to make up things that aren't true. It actually weakens your arguments and makes you look as bad as him, with his Brexit posturing.

What have I made up? I've literally pasted their starting wage structure from their own supplied information

I'll wait for the apology, Tim.

Out of the freezer and into the microwave. Job's a good 'un.

Once again, this has already been dispelled on previous pages. Other people might be willing to let misinformation, disinformation and utter nonsense lie, but I'm not. I don't even have a horse in this race, I just can't stand when people talk like an authority on a subject they know absolutely **** all about.

Having worked in one of the first Spoons in the mid-80s I know some of the tricks used to keep prices low. Managers are only allowed a tiny percentage of wastage and so I've seen drip trays, slop buckets and even beer left in glasses go back in the barrel.

If you are surviving on a state pension or are a poor student I don't suppose you care, but if you can afford better then I don't understand why you would use them.
