Rohan Ince

I thought Ince would become what Bissouma is now, or somewhere close. Or at least Junior Lewis. Maybe if he'd had the benefit of Potter's influence?

Kevin Russell was another who I think we let go too early.

The cohort of fans that used to attend all the reserve games at the Goldstone (£1 entry, including your single sheet 'programme') were very big fans of both Gipp and Muir.

Neither really got a chance to see if they were up to the job. In both cases physical stature counted against them I think.

Muir, went off to become Tranmere Rovers' all time record goal-scorer, so we certainly got that one wrong. Gipp dropped to non-league and then became a market trader, so harder to argue for him, I guess.

Indeed, l can remember those reserve games in the Football Combination so well. Much more fun to watch as well, winning wasn't the be all and end all.

I've always maintained that Oscar Garcia should have left Rohan Ince alone. He came through the ranks as a centre back, and a very promising one at that.

Successful at first when converted to central midfield, but then it all started to go pear shaped for him. A wonderful thing hindsight.

Might have been a promising player at junior level, but at first team level he was WAY off the level required, even at lowly Withdean level (nickname: SloJo). In fact didn't he pack in football after he left us earlydoors to pursue a career in cricket?

Oh he was MILES off. That said, his goals per game ratio was fantastic at U21 level. If I recall, we were dross the season he came up and on our way to getting relegated from the Championship. He was brought in as a bit of a wildcard, hail Mary to see if he could be our savior as an exciting youth player to compete with the Coca-Cola Kid. Spoiler Alert: He wasn't.

Brighton factually.....

He did indeed, I think he even scored against us at Prenton Park 1-1 in 1992 on a cold Friday night in shitty Birkenhead.
I saw him the next night on a Saturday out on the razz in Ashton-In-Makefield, near Wigan, I had a quick chat, but have completely forgotten the conversation.
I am sure I was annoying.

David Gipp used to buy Gulls Eye off us up at the Church, he was always with his Mum who was a fusion between Peggy Mitchell and Elsie Tanner. Like you Hans I used to watch him playing reserve team football, when it was relevant rather than the U23 stuff nowadays, and marvelled at his finishing, shame he didn't make it as he had the look of Michael Owen/Tony Cottee about him?

Chris Holroyd - MoM on his debut, I honestly thought (for a short time...) that he was going to be great. - Now at Warrington, aged 35, which makes me feel old, as I remember him as a fresh-faced youngster.

Abdul Razak - looked incredible against Ipswich (I think it was?). Nothing after that. - Now plays in Sweden.

Gai Assulin - Stints at Man City and Barca before us, whiffs of a potential wonderkid. Clearly had talent but couldn't convert it into performances. - Now without a club aged 30

Joao Teixiera - Talented but inconsistent. - At Rotterdam now, so not doing dreadfully.

Unlike it seems many others, I never rated Rohan Ince. Dreadful touch, dreadful at heading, fairly good at tackling but not a huge amount else. IMO.

Rohan Ince

Went to watch a friend playing for Woking a few weeks ago and Ince was playing. He looked the best actual footballer out there but struggled a lot with the pace and physicality of the game.

Sorry, l'm still trying to get my head around what a cross between Peggy Mitchell and Elsie Tanner would have looked like!

My God what a vision that must have been! :D

My apologies Mrs.Gipp, no offence meant.

Well the National League sure is very physical, Rohan is a big lad though, so l would have thought could cope with it well enough.
