All 5s except Trossard and Lamptey 7s and Biss and Dunk 6s.

Macalister a 2, I got into a bit of a ‘debate’ with the guy behind me, on about 75 mins I was shouting for Mac the sub to himself be subbed, because IMO he was THAT poor. I can cope with a player having an off day BUT not with a complete lack of effort. Strolling about, anymore of that and he can FO out of this club.

I’m Macs biggest fan but he gets a four. The rest a five. I’m struggling to see how anyone else deserves more. That really was possibly the worst home display of the Potter era one to eleven.

We are incapable of following up a good result against a good team with a performance against a shit one. Top ten this season is a pipe dream.

It was just one of those days Newcastle on an awful run that had to end at some point a new manager sitting in the stand looking on.
The Albion finding it very difficult to break through a deep two lines of defence, allowing us much of the ball but little opportunity to break through at pace

One of the worst performances in the Potter era and the ratings reflect it.

Sanchez 4 - aside for two nice balls to Lamptey and March, Sanchez was poor in every department today. Gets a plus point in his rating due to the red, oddly enough. It was the right decision if it was a decision.

Duffy 6 - while it frequently looked like him and Dunk played their first game together, he didnt really do much wrong today.

Dunk 6 - see Duffy.

Veltman 4 - decent defensively, very very poor passing and threw away a number of attacks by making bad decisions. Probably his worst game in the Brighton shirt.

Cucurella 4 - nice bit of running but finishing was poor, crossing was poor, passing was poor, duelling was mostly poor.

March 5 - not as terrible as some but did little useful.

Bissouma 5 - not his usual self. Not bad but by his standards it was a very disappointing performance.

Lallana 5 - some good pressure and didnt give the ball away much but for someone who is supposed to be a playmaker, we really didnt see much of that at all.

Lamptey 8 - best player for Brighton today along with Trossard. Didnt get all that much to work with but his dribbles and crosses were superb and I'm very, very happy to have him back.

Mwepu 5 - meh.

Trossard 8 - continues to impress, but very alone today and looked like he had to do it all by himself due to how poor the others were.

Subs

Mac Allister 3 - young man: whatever this was, dont do it again.

Maupay 5 - did very limited useful things and his rating is only saved by how rough it is to play as a striker when everyone around you are shit.

Webster - played too little to get a rating

A lot of what you say there is true. Particularly disappointed with Cucurella who, after showing us his sublime left foot since he joined, showed last night that he has no right foot and can't head. I hope it's a one off and not the reason he went from Barca to Getafe to Brighton.

But no mention of Potter's tactics? Those were wrong last night, plain and simple. Why use the same tactics against sides like Man City and Liverpool who will press but attack you, against Newcastle who just sat back in a bank of five and bank of four? There was no space for midfielders to run into so utilising the false nine really wasn't paying off, March for Moder didn't work and, when Lamptey inevitably wriggled free, he had no one to cross it to. Yes, Trossard had a very good looking game but so often he was dropping deep to get the ball or dribbling round the whole of their team (very well) because he had no support or run ons and had to create the space himself.

Three things summed us up last night. 1) For the last 25 minutes of the second half they just let Duffy have it in our half and we just gave it to Duffy. I don't think we had a shot in that time. 2) Very poor Mwepu comes off. MacAllister comes on and is far, far worse. That's players AND tactics / substitutions. 3) Sanchez looked every inch the inexperienced keeper he still is. We all knew that this would happen at some point and hopefully the break will do him good because I think, like you, the alternatives are not great IMO.

Not sure Veltman and Bissouma deserved a 6 and a very unfair on Lallana who was one of our better players.

Pretty much agree with all of these.

Worthing
Thought a lot of our problems in the second half came from the back where Sanchez and Duffy had particularly poor games, I thought.

Sanchez has looked worryingly vulnerable this season. Catching has been poor and distribution terrible in several games. He looked much better last season (without crowds?).

I like Duffy but thought he looked completely baffled yesterday. Time and again he just stopped and didn’t seem to know what to do and we put ourselves under needless pressure numerous times by our poor passing around at the back.

I appreciate that this is the Potter way but we just weren’t up to it yesterday and the pace of Cucurella and Lamptey were crying out for some longer balls for them to chase, which paid dividends in the first half where we played pretty well.

Bissouma looked off the pace yesterday by his standards (lack of game time?) and several others, March, Mwepu, McAllister (all the Ms!?) didn’t really turn up.

Bright spots were Trossard, who had a superb game, I thought, and Lamptey, who looked very menacing.

If only we had some midfielders who could score a few!The miss by Lallana was poor. A goal then would have sealed the game and Bissouma seems incapable of getting much lower than row Z most of the time….

Sanchez - 5. Perhaps a game off might do him some good. Has been off his best for a while. He seems to be part of the problem with our playing from the back.It works when the other side doesn't press but when they do, panic ensues.
Veltman - 5 Unusually poor game from him. Gave the ball away too often. Great cross though. Pity we don't have a striker to bury those.
Duffy - 5 Defends ok but very weak distribution. Too often the only pass was to Dunk who passed it back to him and then back to Dunk
Dunk - 6.5 Defended well. Brilliant goalkeeping. Clean sheet!!
Lamptey - 7.5 Great to see him back but too often, it seemed that the team didn't realise that. He made lots of runs which were ignored and we used Cucurella much more.
Cucurella - 6 Good first half but faded in the second in his effectiveness.(Although TBF so did the rest of the team.)
Bissouma - 5. Nowhere near his best. Did their booing get to him?
Mwepu - 5 Poor
Lallana - 5.5 Nowhere near his best. Really needs to work on his shooting.
March - 5 Not March as we know him perhaps Cucurella cramps him?
Trossard - 8. M.O.M They couldn't deal with him. He can play anywhere in this team apart from Goalie and CB :)

Mac Allister - 5 Perhaps Moder would have been a better option or even if we were really brave Sarmiento.
Webster - 5 Good to see him back. Who will make way? Duffy or Veltman? I suspect the former.
Maupay - 5

Agree mostly with this. Maybe I’d bump Lallana and Biss up a point though.

Potter has to get a 5 though. Whilst he’d normally score 7-10 consistently, he just had a very bad game yesterday.

I thought the 1st half performance was fine but he changed it at halftime for the worse. I’m not sure he needed to change it at that point. His subs were all poor, Maupay had no real support, Webster did nothing good in an attacking sense and Mac Allister was just anonymous.

Fortunately, a bad for Potter is almost as rare as an off day for Bissouma. Looking forward to him fixing this against Villa and Leeds.

I dont put ratings at managers after games, ever. Win or lose. Why? Because I'm not in the dressing room or at the game plan meeting before the games, so I literally dont know the instructions. Not that I see the whole pitch either, but I see a lot more of it than I see of the dressing room.

Doesn't stop you mentioning it on other threads. All I've seen is a snide dig at the OP of the Potter's Weakness thread.

If you can't see how the tactics and substitutions contributed to those dreadful ratings you've given I'd stop watching and writing about the game if I were you.

No evidence you would..

That's where you're wrong.

He's a football expert who can read and figure out the chess aspect of managerial substitutions and tactics like all football experts can. Give him a big touch screen and an annoying high pitch Scouse accent and he's pretty much what many people pay their Sky Sports subscription for..

You stand no chance.

All players have off days.

When most of them do, you have to question the manager's preparation of the players and/or the tactics.

In the same way that you would laud the manager when most goes right.
