Two of Brighton and Hove Albion’s first team Premier League stars have been selected in their respective nation’s provisional squads for the upcoming 2018 FIFA World Cup.

After performing in every minute of Albion’s top-flight season, goalkeeper Mat Ryan has been selected in Australia’s provisional 26-man squad for Russia. Ryan kept

After a successful first campaign back in the Premier League, that saw Albion stay up with something to spare, it looks like being an interesting Summer in the transfer market for Chris Hughton. The window hasn’t been open for very long, but the club has already moved to make the first new signings, both announced last week.

Abdul Razak is a player with an unspectacular record and is quickly gaining a reputation as a bit of a Nomad. A quick look on Wikipedia will tell you he’s played for a variety of clubs, starting in the academy with Palace (boo), onto Manchester City, Portsmouth, Brighton, Charlton, onto Anzhi in Russia, back to England with West Ham, onto Doncaster... and more recently to Sweden where he’s currently with ...

What a night. Premier League status confirmed, with two matches to spare. A great occasion, a tremendous effort, and most of all a thoroughly deserved victory.

Every player worthy of the highest praise.

Little Maty Ryan, less busy than might have been expected, went about his business in the tidiest of fashion, plucking high balls at will - plunging to save when he finally had to.

Season after season, as Albion clawed their way back up towards English football’s top table, Seagulls fans crossed their fingers in hope that the club would be drawn away to Manchester United in a cup competition.

A visit to the Theatre of Dreams is the holiest of holy grails for lower league clubs. A trip to Old Trafford gives fans a day out at the home of one of

Back to the Amex, after a dispiriting reverse at Castle Greyskull, for the visit of Tottenham. Which Albion would turn up to tackle Pochetino’s impressive young Spurs side? That which took the game to Leicester for an hour, or that forced to settle for a point after a limp display against Huddersfield a week later?

Spurs’ away form is frightening. Ten wins and just two defeats on their travels, and on a run of sixteen straight

“Get off to bed” they said, “Big day tomorrow. Try to get some sleep”.

Who are they kidding? Sleep? I‘ve not slept for a week. Teeth done, in the bedroom sink with the Albion crest mirror, then stretched out on the bed, under the gaze of the 1982/83 squad, looking down from the wall opposite. Half asleep, half awake, replaying all that brought us to this – to the cusp of eternal glory – to the prospect of triangular corner flags at the Goldstone.

A scrap against Newcastle in the 3rd round – the adventure almost over before it began. A draw secured, then crestfallen at the response that ‘No, we wouldn’t’ be attending the replay – I had no concept of the distances involved. The lads came through it

Saturday night. I've spent two days coughing and wheezing, and shivering and sweating. Not eating, not sleeping. Zombified. "It's SILLY", she says. "Are you up to the (2 hours each way) drive? It'll be freezing. It's on TV. Do you really think it’s a sensible idea?"

Tuesday morning, I'm sat at home typing this, on the second of two days off work ('deep seated bacterial chest infection' apparently) so she might have had a point. But romance and dreams weren't built on 'sensible ideas'. Anyway, the pills seem to be kicking in now – seems like that Fleming chap was onto something. I digress...

Arriving at the game, we're dissecting the Gunners' line-up, and I'm struggling to completely

With the 2017-18 Premier League season entering the business end, it’s time for the Albion to dig in and ensure they enjoy top-flight status for a second year. This season, the race to avoid relegation could be one of the fiercest ever fought. There is only a five point gap between Swansea in 18th place on 27 points, and Bournemouth in eleventh on 32. The Albion are well placed towards the top of the group on 31 points, with 10 games left to play. Here we ...

Massive, massive game at the Amex. Swansea City in town, for a bona-fide six-pointer. The Swans’ revival under Carlos Carvalhal such, that from looking utterly doomed a month back, a win here would take them above the Albion. The Albion themselves in decent form though – after a mini-run of good results – and justifiably confident. There’s a potential fly in the Amex ointment though, in the smug, balding shape of referee, Mr M Dean. It’s Look-at-me-Mike’s first appointment for an Albion home game, since that horrific day at The Riverside. Let’s not go there. With Mike in charge, form, class, momentum ...

I opined in conclusion of the midweek Southampton report, that the value of that draw there could only be properly measured, in conjunction with the outcome of this game. Find a way to beat West Ham - four points in a week - everything looks a bit rosier. Lose this one, and things will take on a very grim outlook.

The lead up to the game had seen my bullish optimism (Lanzini, Arnautovic and Carroll out – good time to play the Hammers…?) had proved ...

A freezing night on the shores of the Solent, to kick off the four game spell that will surely come to define the Albion's season. A huge game for both sides - one that neither could afford to lose - Chris Hughton accordingly dispensing with the 3-at-the-back formation that excited against Chelsea but left us wide open at the same time.

Back to a standard back four, with Bong and Schellotto on the flanks. The rest of the first choice side settled - Knockaert the odd

Despite seeming to be over as a contest after just 5 minutes, this just might have developed into a bloody great game of football. Rotten luck and referee Jon Moss conspired to prevent that happening, and the Albion ultimately succumbed to what looks a drubbing.

Chris Hughton surprised everyone by deviating from his usual rigid formation – a host of personnel changes to suit a new system, based around 3 centre backs. Different ideas are great, though
