No doubt this week will feel like an eternity as we wait for the final round of matches to be played before we find out who will be crowned as the best team in the Championship this season.

While we wait, all we can do is rack our brains trying to predict which team looks the most likely to be adding Silvo Polish to their shopping list next Sunday.

With Brentford v Blackburn Rovers and Nottingham Forest v Ipswich Town being selected for live coverage by Sky Sports next Sunday, Albion's season of disruption by the broadcaster has finally come to an end.

The Albion finished behind Newcastle for matches selected, but earned more money in TV revenue due to having the most home games shown live. (£100,000 paid to home teams & £10,000 to away teams)

On Saturday Chris Hughton will take charge of his 125th Brighton game, joining Micky Adams (1st stint) as the club's 11th longest serving manager.

If all goes well next season, he should end 17/18 as the club’s 7th longest servicing gaffer, overtaking Chris Cattlin (136), Mark McGhee

It was amazing to see so many of the club's fans invading the pitch on Monday to celebrate the Albion achieving promotion to the Premier League. The victory over Wigan was also another landmark, with the Albion winning their 250th Championship point at the Amex.

Before entertaining Birmingham on the 4th April, Brighton's home record was a 3-0 win away from matching that of the final home table of the 1978/79 promotion winning side led by Alan Mullery.

‘Home to Wigan Athletic’ - doesn’t sound much of an event, written down. Recent ‘Home to Wigan Athletic’s can’t have been especially memorable – the last that springs to mind found us 2-0 down after four minutes at Withdean.

Not so this one. Nobody will forget this one for a long, long time.

    Oh my. What a day.

    What. A. Day.

The Amex was resplendent in the pre-match sunshine, capacity crowd buzzing with anticipation of history in the making. The pre-match montage. Well, that was a pretty good Easter, wasn’t it?

It’s been an incredible two full seasons under Chris Hughton. Really, we should have gone up last year. Our record would have been good enough in almost any other season. But we didn’t. Rather than get disappointed though it allowed us to go away and add even more of what it is that makes us great just now. So what is “it”? Some national newspapers have come out with great articles in the last day or so trying to get to just this and they’ve certainly been paying more attention than we thought. However, we regular fans have known the ingredients for a while, and in depth. Here – in

A week ago, consensus in my Albion circles, was that full value from the remaining four home games would finish the job. Two down, two to go.

With the good ship Albion steadied by the professional win at rock-bottom Rotherham midweek, it was back to the Amex with a sense of calm confidence restored. Derby County the visitors - a team packed with star names, but on a wretched run of form.

The Albion unchanged, bar Murray for Hemed - standard Hughton 4-4-2, with last season's go-to midfield pairing of Dale Stephens and Beram Kayal in the centre, and Jiri Skalak preferred on the left over the decent claims of March and Murphy.

Steve McClaren's Rams set-up, rather less standard. Steve had either reached pure desperation levels in his efforts

As Jim White slammed shut the January transfer window, the Albion looked well stocked defensively. With the meanest defence in the Football League and a string of clean-sheets in the bag, the back line had been the bed-rock of a fabulous campaign to date. With no less than four centre-backs of proven Championship quality, and full-back reinforcements on the way in the imminent returns of Liam Rosenior and Gaeten Bong everything was rosy in that particular part of the garden.

Over the course of the last six months or so, Albion number nine Sam Baldock has gone from strength to strength, adding goals to his intelligent and selfless running - finally winning over a large percentage of his erstwhile detractors in the process.

Whilst his movement and work-rate have always been fully appreciated by his manager and team-mates (his strike partners especially), some of the fan base were less prepared to see past a modest contribution to the ‘Goals Scored’ column. “What does he even DO?” they would ask? – refusing to accept the value of the aforementioned attributes = goals win games, not ‘clever movement’.

It is a truism of course – that goals DO win games – it's just that goals don’t happen by accident, (unless you’re Mo Diamė).

    Well, that was disappointing.

From a SkySports perspective, though, it was a brilliant, pulsating game – loads of goal-mouth action – penalty shouts to chew over – celebrity fans to spot – quality saves – a bizarre fluke goal – a dramatic late winner – all making for an apparently massive viewing audience, three times the usual level for a Championship game.

It all started so well, too. The Amex packed to the rafters and in good voice – tension and excitement in the air – defeat here not terminal, but a win would have the table looking well beyond just promising.
