Off to West Ham with a very painful ear - that's EAR. Will see if we can take a few pics of the day.

Apparently, Walsall were very supportive of us in 1996. Does anyone know what sort of response they have given us so far?

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

Oh well, at least it wasn't wet, and the cold was nowhere near as penetrating as Tuesday night at Withdean!

Not even a cursory mention for National Falmer Day in the programme, and therefore no announcements either. Why ask someone to write a piece and then not print it? And then to rub salt into the wound, the club shop wouldn't allow me to leave leaflets there without the permission of the club secretary, and it would be almost impossible to contact her on a match evening!

The programme seller in the door of the club shop took a few hundred off me though and put them inside every programme he sold. Top bloke, as were all the Swansea fans who spoke to Bob and myself and took leaflets into the home end.

That brings me onto the Doncaster fans. Bob Gilbert is an absolute star and deserves a free ticket to the game when Donny come to Withdean next year! He shifted an incredible amount of leaflets to the Donny fans who treated me really well too. I was amazed at the numbers who were at Swansea for a Friday evening game and they really should have won the game. At least the 1-1 draw keeps them 6 points clear at the top and as good as ends any chance of Swansea reaching the play-offs.

No photos, but I was too pissed off to get my camera out!

i was at Lancing today, with crazy cornish gal, pethicks haircut, braders 7, and seagullmatt watching sussex lose 2-0 to cornwall.

Me and braders were handing out leaflets to the "supporters" (of which none made any noise) until about 1:30, whilst being entertained by one of the officials, and his football trivia game. Around 1:30 crazy cornish gal and pethicks haircut turned up to provide there services and were now entertained by the official and his "name as many parts of the body with 3 letters in" game. Then, one of the unlikeliest people to turn up at lancing for a football game, was Martin hinshelwood, who gave one of his free gifts to me ( a freddo). Everyone who entered the game got a programme, pen, freddo, and Ribena) Whilst talking to Hinsh seagullmatt turned up, and aslo helped with the leaflets.

When we were in the stand and singing our hearts out (this was before the game) an over zealous official (not steward) gave me an evil look for blowing a whistle (they obviously dont want an atmosphere) it was a look that suggested blow that again and your out of here, so i put it away.

The game started, sussex in there blue and white stripes much the better team, and about 20 minutes in Leon knight, or gary hart let rip and it hit the bar. Then about another 35 minutes before half time (our ref it seemed, couldnt use his watch properly) so for the 55 minute first half not much happened, apart from choruses of We want falmer, gosbts etc. But know sign of Martin Hinshelwood, where could he be?

Half time, a friendly chat with an argus photographer and he agrees to take a picture of us for the argus. All five us by the pitch with our falmer posters. After our photo, seagullmatt found our missing hinsh, like uncle like nephew, he was in the bar all first half.

Second half, we greet the team with gosbts, no-one else does, cornwall quickly go ahead, after a mess up by Ben Kuipers, or was it Michel Roberts, the defense fail to react and the ball somehow finds its way into the back of the net. Please dont ask me how. We then got hounded by these kids who thought Brighton were playing wrexham, why? i do not know. Cornwall scored again, dont know how, had lost all interest in the game, and placed a bet with the kids that brighton weren't playing, but they were having none of it, apparently it was coming up on teletext. One little kid now needs to give me £20.

After about 50 minutes in the 2nd half the ref blew for full time, and we went back in to action. As the players came off the pitch we all gave them leaflets about falmer and asked them to write in to john prescott, so that is both teams. But Mark Mcghees blue and white army were not pleased with the result and kerry mayo had a very red face, wether it was because he had run a lot, or farted and was embarrased we never found out.

After the game we all went for a kick about and super goalie (braders) stopped almost everything. We then went on to do penalties blindfolded, none of us scored.

A bad game, but a good day, lets hope we get falmer.

Very entertaining game - Kingstonian started the better but Bognor soon got a grip on the game.

No goals in the first half but in the second two superb goals gave Bognor the edge.

Very welcome reception from BRFC and we mentioned over the tannoy. Got all the leaflets distributed and got quite a few letters signed by both sets of fans and a few supportive Portsmouth fans as well.

Thanks to Liz Costa and crew who took the lead on getting letter signed.

Good to meet Lush, Edna Krabappel and Lolly today. I have great admiration for what you guys have got organised today at clubs up and down the country.

Edna did a teriffic interview on Palace Radio, and although I haven't spoken with Lush yet I expect we managed to get all the letters she brought along signed. I think I did between 20 and 30 in an hour or so before the game. I kind of lost track to be honest.

I've another couple of names/addresses to send over to Lush for the postcards thing. I've sent a message to the editor of the Palace Echo, our main fanzine, and I hope the full story will appear in the next issue. If that is in time to help your cause further then so much the better.

Well done, guys.

Just back from Stevenage v Woking. No official recognition from Stevenage who had asked me to only give out leaflets outside the ground after the game. As it was I handed out leaflets before and after the game, 180 in all, and was very well received by both sets of fans. Woking fans were particularly encouraging and seemed very clued up about the day of action. Definitely worthwhile although a hailstorm from 2.30 to 2.50 was really inconvenient.

What an incredible day!
A day that will stay with us for many many years.
It all began at home here in South Shields as we decked out the cars with blue and white and A4 Falmer posters on a warm and sunny morning.
Then crammed in our two vehicles we made a pleasant and failr speedy journey up the north east coast to beautiful Berwick - England's northernmost town and the home of Berwick Rangers- the only English football club to play in the Scottish league. Their ground is quaint - Vaux Conf non-league by English standards - and only spoilt by a speedway track running between the terraces and seated stands and the pitch - it had a certain feel of Withdean about it.
Arriving at 1pm we were immediately welcomed by the club secretary Denis McCleary and the chairman Robert Wilson, shown inside the ground and offices and told they were all 100% behind (Berwick had similar ground problems to ours some years ago and these things live long in people's memories). We were then told to go to the club bar/club where we would be made welcome. We took their advice and enjoyed a couple of pints and half an hour of good chat with 40 or so Berwick and Hamilton club members who were finishing their lunch and having a wee bevvy. Leaflets were handed out and many signed letters to Prescott and we took other's names and postcodes (BTW Tim, the postcard didn't arrive until after we got home tonight!).
Outside we bought a match programme – the half-page piece inside about Falmer was superb and many mentioned they had already read of our plight in the local newspaper the Berwick Advertiser the previous day. We then set about leafleting and lobbying every fan, coach driver, copper, St John’s folk, player or club official we could find and by 3pm all of our leaflets were gone. Everyone, without exception was supportive and I was surprised how many knew the ins and outs of our history over the last 11 years – some even mentioned the names Bellotti and Archer! I find that amazing given the distance and the fact that our clubs play in different countries! A good few chatted on about how Brighton was an old established “big club” and how it would be a travesty if we failed. Even the Hamilton supporters who come from near Glasgow were supportive and wanted to hear of sunny Brighton!
So by 3pm we went into the ground warmed and in good spirit. Initially we had decided to support each side for 15 minutes in turn. But given the welcome by Berwick – and the fact they are English – we stood with the Berwick mob and joined them for pie and Bovril at half time. My two-year-old (it was his first football match) had the crowd roaring whenever he saw a seagull (there were loads) would shout “Seagulls”. My 20 year old son Ben, my wife and I tried a chorus of “Stand up if you want Falmer” …. but as only 5 joined in, we thought discretion was a better ploy!
Oh …. And the football? It was crap … sheer unadulterated crap! Ryman league standard kick and rush. If your think our passing has been poor, you should have seen this. A 4-2 defeat for Berwick and not one of the goals was memorable – in fact I missed one as I turned around to stop the wee one from pinching a guy’s Bovril!
But we will never forget it.
I am now going to enjoy reading everyone else’s experiences.
PS. Took loads of photo’s and will process them tomorrow and post one or two on Monday!

Saw Seagull over leicester doing excellent work outside the ground with his nipper - right by club shop with a special kiosk thingy as well.

Handed out loads of leaflets in the hospitality lounge and had a qucik word with Brian Mawhinney who said that he had regular contact with DK and that Prescott was well aware of his views on the issue.

Programme piece was excellent - Diamonds were crap and Posh were full value for their 1-0 win.

Just back from Bournemouth. Shafted loads fo leaflets (400+) and people were very positive and friendly bar a couple. One Wycombe fan had a massive go at me - winging how we'd cost them money at the sit-in etc. Stewards were friendly and one even signed a letter. Steve Cotterill was there and signed a letter to Prescott. Another BHA fan there with a stall got loads fo letters signed. A full page in the programme. :clap2: Really great stuff because both sets of fans were very very supportive and wished us luck.

Swindon 2 Brentford 1

I got to the ground circa 1.15pm, having walked from the station with a couple of Brentford fans, who (having clearly got to the ground much earlier than they expected), assisted me in giving out leaflets for a good half hour or so. I have to say the feedback was fantastic - Swindon devoted a whole page to the Falmer issue in their programme, which was a great help explaining what I was doing. Gave out 400 leaflets, and only got abuse from about half a dozen or so Swindon "fans". The vast majority were surprisingly interested, and quite a few found it amusing that a Brighton fan was attending a Swindon/Brentford game. At least 20 or so seemed VERY clued up on what was happening - indeed, the level of knowledge was much higher than that I experienced when leafletting at the Clock Tower. At least 25 or so Swindon fans actually said that Brighton was their second team, and they always looked out for our result. With it being just me, I was unable to give out leaflets AND get names/postcodeds for the post card thing, but at half time I did a tour of my section of the stdand, and got about 30 or so names of Swindon residents for Tim Carder.
How many Swindon fans take up their pens and write remains to be seen, but I certainly have a MUCH higher regard for them than I had a few days ago - it really is FANS UNITED.

Oh, by the way - got the cold shoulder from the Brentford youth team who turned up in a minibus, but couldn't be arsed to take any leaflets. Their goalkeeping coach DID however, take a leaflet. The Grimsby scout was also there (good bloke - Grimsby playing Swindon in a week or so), and he took a leaflet.

Me, Desert Orchid, Trish, Verily I Say..., Superphil, Superwife and 3 other Albion fans went to AFC Wimbledon v Cobham today. 2 of those fans took away the letters they collected, but the other 7 collected more than 300 letters at the ground and these will be passed on to Tim Carder this evening or tomorrow. Others will no doubt act later on the requests in the 2,000 leaflets we gave out.

Response was predictably great. Wimbledon won 5-1 - nice to see a few goals for a change! - and it was a very enjoyable afternoon apart from the rain and hail soaking we got for 20 minutes.

The three of us, Gloster Girl ( Sally), Kylie's Stunt Arse (Dan) and Moi, Gloster, set off to Whaddon Road, Cheltenham and arrived just after 1.30ish. Rosey, the parking steward, was on the car park gate and was expecting us. We had just parked when we were approached by western daily press reporter who said he would contact me for a story. it was a bit cold so I left Gloster Girl and KSA to hand out leaflets outside  along with the clever business cards that i downloaded (I printed about 1,500 - and most went - the rest I left at Tescos!) I went into the club bar! The response was awsome most know of our plight and were happy to support the cause. "Wow youve come along way then!"
"gloucester!" I replied (to some)

We then got our "Staff" passes and were escorted round the ground to our seats.
The match was very entertaining the ref was giving some funny decisions, as they do. 3 goals later just before half time it was 2-1 to Lincoln. Half time I walked around the ground and was let in with the lincoln supporters a few were there at the Goldstone! Again received very well.

Lincoln down to 10 men it was a bit off a battle and Chelt deserved at least a draw. At one stage someone shouted "Seagulls, Seagulls!" and it wasn't us 3! 4 minutes to go Chelt scored 2-2 the crowd got behind them and in the last minute Chelt got the winner! Just time to kick off when the ref blew for full time!

We walked back to the front and got our photo taken. Gloster Girl and KSA went back to the car and I thought I would go up to the players bar and boxes. Which I did! Again was greeted well as I handed out letters and postcards then I went down a corridor that said "Strictly No Entry - Directors Only" I knocked and entered ,err, I handed out leaflets and thanked the Chairman! I left and thought this was too good to miss so I went back for the camera and went back in! "Oh youre back said the Chairman and I asked if I could have a phot with him! We smiled and said Cheese! A result all round! I shall post the photos on Monday!

A great day all round thanks for you're company KSA and gloster Girl! (or was that mustang?):clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

Four of us were at Bury.

We started off in the Social Club (beer poor so we drank the Guiness), talking to people as they came in, handing out leaflets, and collecting names and postcodes for the postcards. Most people were very supportive (even the Orient fans).

Then we moved outside to catch people as they went in the ground.

At half-time we were allowed to walk round the ground with a We Want Falmer Banner, and again received good support, apart from the away end who predictably gave us some stick.

I have some pictures which I will post as soon as I have found somewhere to host them. (I assume I can't post them from my harddrive).

The game was fairly poor, and it was bitterly cold, but I quite enjoyed the experience.

Just back from Oxford.

We had a good reception from both sets of fans. By 2.55 we'd run out of letters and pretty much run out of leaflets.

I was amazed by the knowledge that the Oxford fans had about the Falmer situation. I think it helped that they'd had similar problems with Nimbys with their stadium, but there was a general feeling of goodwill to all us. There was one guy (who looked like he'd stepped off the Chavscum website) who tore up a leaflet in front of me but he was a rare exception. Many people promised to write, some said they had already written, some offered me money; all heart-warming stuff.

Not so much joy from the club. No mention in the programme and I was told to take off my stripes before I went into the ground (think Biscuit got the chairman to sign a letter though).

The game itself wasn't too great, although it improved in the second half. A draw would have been a fair result, but fair play to Huddersfield who hung on for a 1-0 win.

Steele looks overweight and Paul McCarthy has lost what pace he had. Andy Crosby looks solid enough though.

It was a fantastic experience and really encouraging to know how much support we had.

Hope my interview came out OK. I was still handing out the last of my leaflets so I might have sounded a bit distracted. Good one though Hawesy.

WE SURVIVED!

Just back from Selhurst.

Collected Edna from Burgess Hill and got to the ground about 1.30pm, where we dragged Gosling away from his pint in the Glaziers.

A quick call to Rob Fox who is the matchday announcer - and the next thing we know Edna is on Palace Radio, fending off difficult questions from the resident comedians like a pro.

We then met up with Lolly, friend Sam (Palace) and Royal Ali and Sam (Reading), covered up our shirts to get past the bouncers and went into the Clifton Arms. Then it was off to Holmesdale Road to start collecting signatures, "Save The Seaweed" T-shirts to the fore.

And everyone...was really very nice!! We got about 160 letters signed and handed out leaflets, and everyone was really keen to see us survive, saying it wouldn't be the same with us as rivals. There were a few "no's" and "you're 'avin a laughs" but not many.

Gosling started his spiel, with "I'm a Palace fan, but I want Brighton to get their ground..." he was an absolute star, as were Royal Ali and his sister and Lolly and her Palace-supporting mate.

We went into the ground at about 2.50pm, mainly to avoid the nutters just coming out of the pubs, and got more letters signed and more support from the Reading fans.

Entertaining game, with two poor defences. Palace will be gutted to draw IMHO. Brooker didn't get on the pitch. Ivar played well, as did Sidwell.

Good spiel about National Falmer Day over the tannoy at half-time from Rob Fox, but nothing in the programme :(

With more people and more time we could have got thousands of letters signed IMHO. Everyone was so supportive.

Keep the faith guys - we WILL get Falmer.

Rotherham 1 Bradford 2

Just got back in (because we went to Ned's Mum's for dinner)

We arrived at Millmoor at 1.50. I rang the Safety Officer as arranged when we arrived at the Tivoli end. We had already handed out a couple of leaflets as we parked the car and explained the situation to those walking beside us.
The Safety Officer met us and introduced us to the Senior Steward. Both great guys and explained where known trouble causers like to stand (Tivoli is a covered terrace - oh, the memories) and said the other stewards had all been told about us and were looking out for us. No problem wearing the stripes but a few Rotherham supporters did look quite hard at us because they don't like Sheff Wed there. That was one reason why we both wore our Centenary shirts because the Brighton & Hove Albion stands out quite clearly on them.
A couple of blokes did get a little bit mouthy to Ned but a steward told them to lay off as we were 'guests' of the club (even though we had to pay to get in)

We handed out over 300 leaflets (mainly to the younger supporters who would be au fait with a computer to use the email and petition options) and got letters signed.

The general response was pretty good. They need to modernise their stadium and keep getting planning permission turned down. So most reactions were along the lines of 'so do we' when we said we needed a stadium. When I replied that theirs was 100% better than ours, it made a difference and they listened.

A few had been to Withdean and some even had relatives in Sussex so therefore knew a lot about it. Overall the reaction was very friendly and willing to help out.
Ned got talking to an organiser of RUST (Rotherham United Supporters Trust) who was very interested.

The game itself was a bit dire. Those that say we couldn't cope in Div 1 with the team we have are being pessimistic. We could have coped with the standard of play today. Having said that some Rotherham supporters came up to us and apologised for Rotherham's play today. Bradford have got a Belgian keeper on a months loan from Birmingham called Vaesan who looked pretty good and kept them in the game.
Chemical Brother met up with us and stood with us during the game. Thanks for the encouragement CB.

When Rotherham scored in the second half the bloke behind me grabbed me and kissed me :lolol: Ned thought it was hilarious. We have a picture of him which I'll post later.

One young teenager said he would sign the letter if I would kiss the Rotherham badge on his shirt. I said I would because my late Father in law was a fan. So I did; he and his mates were dead chuffed.

A good day and the Seagulls have friends in the north.

Nothing in the programme but there was a mention of Brighton & Hove Albion in a full page about celebrity fans. It was about Ralph Brown the actor (Star Wars 1)
Didn't hear anything on the tannoy.

We didn't try to get to the Bradford fans. They have enough problems of their own at the moment.

Haven't got time to run through everything that happened today as I'm really hungry, but here are the basics.

We have returned from Oxford with 223 signed letters and various post codes etc. We gave out well over 1000 leaflets. Very well received before the match from both sets of fans with almost everyone wanting to help. We would probably been able to get even more done but we were over-run with people wanting to sign at times and we had to keep getting more letters photocopied.

Inside was a little different. The club weren't particularly helpful, some stewards didn't want us leafleting at all but their boss guy let us in the end. We weren't allowed to wear our shirts in as Huddersfield were also in blue and white. No help with our we want falmer chants. Nothing announced or in the programme. Some fat burberry dick started threating to kill us so we left a little before the end.

We did get their chairman to sign a letter though, as well as his daughter or pa or mistress(we couldn't tell).

Brightened up after the game. We went into their executive bar for a while in the hope of finding Steele but no luck. When we were heading back to the car though we bumped into both Lee Steele and Andy Crosby who were both very nice. They took off with some leaflets(we'd run out of letters) and we have a photo of the encounter to come.

As we were getting into the car there was a guy walking past so we opened the window to give him a leaflet and it turned out to be someone who played for us in the 83 cup run. Kieran something I think, I'll check. Also have a photo of that.

A success all in all I think!

i was at Lancing today, with crazy cornish gal, pethicks haircut, braders 7, and seagullmatt watching sussex lose 2-0 to cornwall.

I turned up courtesy Kevin Smith (thanks mate!) & got stuck into the Weymouth supporters waiting to go in. 99.9% supportive. A few in big match mood already (ie p*ssed). As with other contributors at other games the knowledge of BHA's history was amazing.

With about 10 or 12 at that entrance we were able to collect names for postcards from perhaps 75% of the early queue. As it drew nearer to kick off more urgency to get positions on the terraces (remember them?) made it a bit more difficult. I have no idea what the final tally would be but certainly in the hundreds. A few stray Crawley fans were directed to the 'desk' to sign letters.

BBC South East were around for over 30 minutes at our gate & promised a fairly lengthy piece. I can't get it in Brighton. Did anyone catch it? Have you got a copy video? (07775 782588 anytime)

Once inside we caught up with a few more Albion behind one of the goals. I guess there perhaps 40-50 of us in that location. We were very well received by the home fans, although nothing on the tannoy at HT. Didn't manage a programme, did anyone else?

Crawley's biggest ever home crowd of 4,500 had some atmosphere. I've seen worse games at Withdean despite the first half's reliance on hopeful/less long balls. Two quick goals for Crawley early first half sealed it although it got to a bit of a nail biter when Weymouth pulled one back with ten minutes left. Marney looked sharp up front for them, Pethick for Weymouth had a very daft hair cut like a bad pudding basin with a home peroxide.

A good time was had by all. Can we do this more often?

Sorry if I didn't get the score exactly right - Forgot to make a note of it at the end by which time the Bears were scoring for fun. Anyway, the Bears wiped the floor with them. Very convincing win.

Myself and Rotten junior had a really great time. We met Braders before the doors opened and as promised security let us leaflet everyone in the foyer. Between the 3 of us we gave out about 800 and everyone who came in was approached. Even saw Kerry Mayo on his way in. Everyone I spoke to was very supportive without exception. One elderly couple said they been at the 1979 promotion game at Newcastle and would write.

Saw Braders, Fatboy, Rougvie, I think Ben Andrews Girlfriend, and friends. Good to meet you all. Albion contingent significantly added to the vocal support for the Bears (!), and got a standing ovation from the hardcore Bears fans at the final whistle. Also worth mentioning Paul Williams the MC specifically gave the campaign a mention and played Good Old Sussex By The Sea at the end, ahead of the ususal Self Preservation Society.

Just got back from Cheltenham. Really good day down there, pretty much everyone we spoke to was positive and quite a few had heard a lot about Falmer on the radio and were more than willing to help. Amongst the people that took leaflets and cards were the chairman of Lincoln City supporters club and the lady that runs the Cheltenham supporters website. She said that she'd scan our stuff on to their site and put a link on to the petition.

I also left a load of cards and leaflets in the club shop and the staff in there agreed to put one in every bag. The guys selling programmes outside put a card into each programme too.

Many thanks to Glosterseagul and Gloster girl for all the printing and organising. It was a pleasure to help out. Thanks also to Cheltenham Town for letting us into the game for nowt!

Hello
Just got back from the LONG trip to Chester.

Went up yesterday afternoon with my g/f to avoid a rush and stayed at a Chester based seagull fan, at uni. So there was just the three of us trying to do our best with their highest gate of the season, 3318.

First stop was the supporters club. Got quite a few letters signed there as well as a good hundred letters/leaflets handed out/left on the table by the door.

Then it was up to the main gate to hand out as many leaflets to people walking in. The general attitude from Chester fans was brill, as they were in the same boat a few years back. It was 'you helped us out so we'll do the same' sort of thing.

Not overtly great from the Burton fans but they were taking the leaflets to look at.

Nothing in the programme but I don't think they were notified in time, not all the board knew what was going on even tho they guys we contacted had notified the stewards we were going to be there.:dunce:

Didn't manage to get a word with either Nigal Clough or Mark Wright :(
but the two local papers, the Chester Leader & Chester Chronical, both took a load of info and some pic's of us at half time with a couple of posters we had done, as the banner was too big for the shot.:lolol:

They are both going to be doing something in this weeks papers for us and will send us a copy when it's in.

All in all around 300+ leaflets handed out and a comical goal for Burton to take the lead.(I'm never going to worry about back passes to Ben Roberts again);)

Pictures to follow when we've downloaded them.

Just to let you know that Steve Duly the MD at Crawley said this in the Programme:

"B&HA have a free day today due to their scheduled opponents Tranmere Rovers success in the FA Cup, and we welcome any followers of "The Seagulls" who have made the short trip up the M23.

We were delighted to be able to show our support of Brighton's proposed move to Falmer, in the shape of a letter to the Deputy Prime Minister. Inserted in today's programme is a flyer from B&HA, with all of the contact details to send correspondence in support of the new stadium.

The harsh reality is that the club could cease to be without the move, and we would urge you to take time out to show your support."

Hope this is to your liking!

I'm amazed - considering the numbers there - that there aren't already loads of reports from Crawley.

I arrived an hour before kick off to find cars all over the place. The place was buzzing already.

Had to park in Southgate and noticed that the Half Moon pub had been taken over by Weymouth fans. Walked to the ground with some very drunk examplas of same, who managed to make an incredible amount of noise in the subway under the A23. Lots of great renditions of "Is this all we take away".

At the ground, Paul Samrah was set up with a microphone and was talking non-stop. Several people were handing out leaflets in the North West corner of the ground, and I had a scout about to see how things were covered. Loads of Brighton fans about, but I soon noticed that the gate used for those with tickets bought in advance was not being covered and most of those going in that way were not passing anyone else. I therefore set up there on my own and mangaged to hand out all my leaflets by about 2.40. In the middle of it, a noisy bunch came through and had a bit of a set to with a couple of drunk Weymouth fans. I ended up in the middle of it all, but luckily it didn't kick off!

I didn't get anyone giving me any grief about our plight, and most people were very supportive. I was surprised at how many wished us the best and said they were fully supporting us over Falmer. Most of those who refused leaflets did so because they had already written to Prescott of had picked up a leaflet elsewhere.

I stood in the NE corner, where there was a big group of Brighton fans. The Weymouth fans were much noisier than the Crawley lot. There didn't seem to be many Crawley singers at all!

The first half was a little drab as both sides appeared to be too frightened of losing to put much together, but the second half was much better and burst into life when Crawley scored two quick goals - one from Paul Armstrong and the other coming from a shot from Danny Marney that the keeper couldn't hold.

Crawley were comfortable after that, until suddenly conceding a goal out of nothing. This led to a tense last 10 minutes or so in a hail-storm with Weymouth laying seige to Crawley's goal. A very funny miss from Claridge was the nearest they came to scoring, though, and Crawley held on for a deserved win.

The announcer made several mentions of Falmer before the game and again at half time and thanked us for attending. There were two articles in the programme as well as the inserts that I had given them. There was also a large Stadium Yes banner that moved around at the South end of the ground. All in all, a good effort all round!

Oh, and Paul Samrah was interviewed for the local news programme - which I saw, but can't remember if it was on BBC or ITV! He may even have been on both.

Just back from AFC Wimbledon. What an awesome day. I'm willing to bet that the Dons fans signed more letters to Prezza than anyone else.
I'm sorry if myself and Mark (The Grim Reaper) seemed to spend more time in the bar than anyone else, but were collecting signed letters like nobody's business.
Huge respect to Kris, Ivan and Ronan (I owe you some beer) at AFCW. Matt Alexander the Cobham manager, who signed a letter. Man of the match: 17 year old Lewis (yes, no, dunno). Anyone who helped out, everyone we talked to and the guy from the K's trust.
Lovely to meet Jan, Trish, Matthew , Phil and Mrs. Phil (sorry, I've forgotten your name). Somehow I feel this isn't our last visit to Kingsmeadow.

Brighton Fans Make Their Point

Five Brighton & Hove Albion supporters arrived at Gigg Lane early on Saturday to try and hit home their 'Falmer' campaign and received a superb response from Bury fans

The five were allowed onto the pitch at half time and held their banner aloft as they walked the entire perimeter of the pitch. All Bury supporters were on their feet applauding the five seagulls as they made their protests known.

Thankfully the five walked in front of the TV cameras and as soon as the video is received, a copy of the walkpast will be sent down to the Official Brighton website for their World subscribers.

A few photos taken by the Brighton fans are shown below, and we are sure the Seagulls would welcome all Bury internet users by visiting a superb message board at www.northstandchat.com

Mr C and I went to Colchester V Hartlepool.

Got there just after 1.00. Met their Chief Exec. She was very supportive, as Colchester have a similar planning issue.

Handed out just under 400 leaflets. Also enlisted help of burger van, newsagent, programme sellers, and one of the turnstile operators, who is 'half Colchester, half Brighton' :clap2: :lolol:

Response from just about everyone was top class. Expect to get a good response of letters/emails sent.

We watched the first half in the Colchester end. Colchester were the better team in the first half. Their approach play was good, but finishing was appalling. Hartlepool took the lead against the run of play. Colchester equalised from a corner. It was the only way they were likely to score!

At half time we switched allegiances, and went into the away end
:lolol: :lolol: . Fair play to the stewards for allowing us to do so.

Our switch had a telling effect on the game! Hartlepool were by far the better team in the second half, and probably just about deserved their 2-1 win. Not good for Albion's league position, but at least it made 'Pool's fans even more receptive to our leaflet campaigne!

Both sets of supporters are looking forward to their trip to Brighton in the coming weeks, except those who said 'we're not paying 21 f***ing quid to come down there.' That was about the worse abuse we got!!

Also fair play to the Hartleppol team and staff. Mr. C well and truly 'Falmered' them as they arrived. They were really supportive and receptive.

All in all a good day.

West Ham 0 Walsall 0

I actually thought that there were only going to be 4 or 5 of us. It turned out that there were over a dozen of us handing out leafets.

West Ham fans, on the whole, were very supportive; a few said that they had already written, most said that they would. There were a few 'you're having a laugh, you poofs', but the VAST majority were excellent.   There was complete surprise, and we got a lot of funny looks with all the Brighton shirts there! A few of them congratulated us for getting off our arses, and were genuinely admiring of our own efforts for our football club.

No mention in the programme. We weren't trying to get signatures. We did get the feeling that a lot of fans were oblivious to our plight, so leaflets were the order of the day. Contrary to mendoza's thread, I think we got through closer to 2,500-3,000 leaflets.

One West Ham fans even stopped for a while to help with the distribution of leaflets.

Look out on Monday for a picture of Sir Geoff Hurst holding up a 'We Want Falmer' banner. Brilliant work everyone.:clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

Pics from me during the week.

BTW West Ham were mediocre, but Bobby played a blinder. Marlon Harewood is another Jermaine Defoe - very selfish. David Connolly (he is class) had to spend a fair amount of time moaning at him for his lack of teamplay.

Wow, a fantastic effort from everyone. Tremendous to read about everyones adventures yesterday - and a lot of credit to Lush & Co for heading into enemy territority!!

I really enjoyed my trip down to Crawley, although as I was sat in the grandstand I was unable to mingle with the large Albion contingent who were diagonally across the pitch from me as I'd hoped!!

The PA gave us a nice mention before the game, and I understand that there was a piece in the programme (sold out by the time I got there).

Brilliant work everyone. Couldn't make it to Cambridge but hopefully Hilton's friend made it. I will try to get people to sign the postcards thing at the school I work at, 400+ kids taking home leaflets next week, will hopefully make up for not being able to attend yesterday.

Well done everyone!!!

Such a wicked day.

Got loads of leaflets handed out and letters signed at Crawley. The majority of fans were fantastic (no pun intended!) and Weymouth were especially sympathetic to the cause as they are also having difficulties with planning permission for a new ground.

A boring first half but a great second and a brilliant result for the reds.

Got photos taken with Danny Marney and Robbie Pethick(who didn't know how to spell football genius!).

Got back in time to get to the Bears game where Braders, John and Sam(?) were doing a great job handing out leaflets. We handed a few out before getting pictures taken with Charlie Oatway and Kerry Mayo.

Then went out on the lash and handed more leaflets out to drunkards! Have so many brilliant photos that Poke will upload later.

Bumped into Mendoza 10, had a pizza (I think) and seem to have a distinct lack of memory from about 1am!

Got a great(?!) pic of Rougvie's bottom, taken just after he had attempted to single handedly take on a doorway full of bouncers!

I love being an Albion fan

Just back home from Bury. I caught the 8.50 flight from Gatwick to Manchester on Saturday morning. Earlier I'd somehow managed the Houdini-isk task of folding the "we want Falmer" banner into a rucksuck. As I was putting my bag into the luggage rack onboard, to my horror the banner started to unravel. A piece of quick improvisation got the banner folded again, despite holding up other passengers trying to board and getting an old fashioned look from the Purser! On arrival at Manchester I was collected by the mole, where we were soon on our way to Gigg lane to meet up with padders and Lucifer. We met Gordon the Bury press officer outside. True to his word, he'd got a piece in the programme about Falmer, plus he'd arranged for us to take the banner on the pitch at half time. We entered he Bury social club. The omens weren't initially good. The doorman looking puzzled at our shirts and asking the question.."Are you Leyton Orient fans?"  After explaining what we were about, he asked us to move to another bar at the side as the one we had entered was "members only". He relented and allowed us to leaflet the members bar though. We were joined by three Bury supporting friends of mine and the task of collecting signatures and leafleting began in Earnest. The respose from the fans was nothing short of fantastic, many of them familiar with the history of the Falmer saga. Even the Orient fans in the clubhouse were willing to sign. Only one Orient fan refused to sign as his daughter lives in Falmer. After a Falmer plug at half time by the PA man, we went on a lap of Gigg Lane with the banner. The response from The Bury fans: fantastic. The response from many Orient fans: Predictable:dunce:  All in all, a fantastic day with many letters signed and signatures collected for the postcards. Funiest moments of the day. The de-selected Labour councillor who bent Lucifers ear for a lengthy time re John Prescott, and my encounter with the most gormless steward in the World, who could easily be typecast for a role in "The Royle family"!

Oh yes, there was a game of football....A dull affair of few chances ended 1-1. Bury taking the lead midway through the second half with a goal by.....someone?? Orient equalised with a header from Reading reject John Mackie, who only minutes earlier was fortunate to stay on the field. The evening was spent in one of Bury's dodgiest boozers. Cabaret was provided by an arguing couple, which climaxed with "her" flouncing out the pub, leaving "him" to drown his sorrows.

She left without even signing one of my letters!

Email to the editor of the Argus:

Simon,

Not sure if you're aware, but intrepid Brighton fans roved the country yesterday, attending most Football League games (and others) to campaign for Falmer. Myself, I went to Swindon v Brentford, and (in line with feedback from everywhere else) was VERY well received. The fans' web site NorthStandChat has many fantastic tales, and the positive support from all around the country (from Torquay to Berwick) is simply humbling. The people of Sussex should be proud to know that they have the most universally-loved football club in the land in their midst.

National Falmer Day is a wonderful, heart-warming, and unique story - I would urge the Argus to give it the MASSIVE coverage that it deserves.

Cheers, Jim

Hello all. This is just a quick message to say well done from all Norwich fans for your presence at Carrow Road today. I went along with Safeway and helped him give out leaflets and spread the word about Falmer. Unfortunately there was nothing in the matchday program, but we still managed to enlighten a few people.

Cracking day all round, especially with the Yellow Army stomping to a brilliant 3-1 win over the scum.

Premier League, and having a laugh! :flameboun

As for Twickenham, well what can I say...............The Rugby lot are so different from us that follow the BETTER sport of chasing a more sensibly curved ball.
They seem to be mainly flat cap wearing middle aged people who really do look down there noses when it comes to football. (In short they are a different breed)
We stood proudly on the East terrace wearing our Albion shirts, with a few fans looking quite bemused and obviously wondering why 2 football fans were at a Rugby match.
One guy I spoke to knew all about our plight as he came from Hove, and was quite supportive but in general they didn't give a f**k.
In their defence they really do know how to enjoy themselves, and the drinking after/before the game is something to behold.
As we walked from the station there was people selling hotdogs etc from their front gardens. We could learn a few things from Rugby fans.

I must say though that standing in a Stadium with 75,000 people was breath taking and this was a day I will never forget, even if England did lose.
I informed the people standing near us that I am a Jonah and if they didn't write to Prescott I would be attending the next home match England v Wales
:lolol:

Whether we get any response from the leaflets handed out remains to be seen.

I gave a brief report on Stevenage yesterday but here is my experience in more detail. Small in scale compared to others that I have read but every little counts.

Got to Stevenage at 1.45 and parked in the car park in the shadow of the big top of the Moscow State Circus which was occupying most of the field opposite the ground. Cars started trickling in and I approached every group of fans that emptied out. They were almost all Woking fans. They were all really supportive and all understood the issues and the day of action, mostly from SCR coverage. They were all really happy to see an Albion presence at the game. As kick-off approached more Stevenage fans arrived, much less aware of our situation but all very supportive and keen to see how they could help. A severe hailstorm curtailed my activities at 2.30.
After the game I stood at the exit by the home terrace and handed out as many leaflets as I could, with the exception of a couple of fans, who ran away before I could talk to them, everyone was really friendly. I then moved to the mainstand exit to pick up on the bigwigs and, again, universal support including members of the Stevenage Youth Team. I had hoped to catch Barbara and Ken Follett, who had been at the game but missed them, shame given their influence in the Labour party.

The game itself was a classic grudge match between 2 clubs
who have no love for each other. 1-1 with a controversial goal ... good stuff for the neutral.

The biggest problem that I had was that, working alone, I had to strike the right balance between distributing leaflets to the maximum number of people and talking in depth to those with a particular interest. This was a major problem 4.50-5.00 when the crowd was pouring out of the ground.

Overall it felt like it had been really worthwhile

As Fran has already said we went to AFC Wimbledon, the response was fantastic, everybody was so supportive. What was also great was how many people had admitted to having looked at our website, signed the online petition and had already sent off their own letters of support.

Nearly everyone wished us good luck and had a story to tell of their own plight. Said that as a Club we led the way on fans taking action.

Well I never thought you'd get me forking out £20 to watch Palace, but some things are more important in the wider scheme of things, so off we trundled to Selhurst with a just hint of apprehension.

Shortly after arriving at the ground (and still heavily camouflaged at this point) I found myself hustled into the palatial studio that is home to Palace Radio (available matchdays in the Croydon area, probable number of listeners: 12) and desperately trying to plug the cause. Despite several attempts to take the piss from pony-tailed comedian DJ, I think I winged it pretty reasonably and managed to get the message across.

On to the corner of the Holmesdale Road and the Arthur Waite Stand, and the first test of the Palace fans' reaction to the appearance of Brighton colours on their patch. No such worries for Gosling, who eagerly grabbed the clipboard and was off into the crowds, pinning them down with patter a salesman would have been proud of. General response was very good, helped perhaps by the Save the Seaweed t-shirts, summarised as follows.

Letters signed: 160 odd I think
Leaflets given out: 400 approx
Completely ignored by Palace fans: 50
"Brighton?? Yer 'avin a larf" from Palace fans: 5
"Blimey, you're brave" from Palace fans: 12
"F**k off, you c**ts" by recently-emerged-from-pub Palace pond life: 1
"seriously, good luck guys, we don't want to have to be rivals with Millwall" from Palace fans: hundreds.

Leafleting over, Lush and I decided that sitting with home fans would be pushing our luck a bit too far, so found ourselves seats in the Reading section. I am pleased to report that instinct kicked in properly for me, and I leapt from my seat with joy when Palace conceded the first goal. More letters signed at half time by Reading fans who were pretty much all generous in their wishes.

Highlights of the day for me-

- about 50 Reading fans singing "you're even worse than the Brighton" and "Seagulls" to the Holmesdale end when they equalised.
- A GREAT new chant courtesy of Reading fans. To the Tom Hark tune, it goes "Iain Dowie, Elephant man/Iain Dowie, Elephant man" and is accompanied by the action of waving your arm in front of your face like a trunk. Marvellous scenes.
- Hundreds of Palace fans booing one of their own players (Julian Gray) and singing "get him off, get him off, get him off" to the bench. Great support guys....

Anyway, Gosling gave us fantastic support, as did the majority of Palace and Reading fans, to be fair. Cheers to all.

Not sure I'd call him their best player, but he did alright. They had worse players, certainly.

I haven't heard a crowd target one of their own like that before. I thought the abuse must be for a Reading player at first, but then when they started singing 'get him off' realised it was aimed at one of theirs.

I stress it wasn't the whole crowd, but a pretty substantial section of the Holmesdale end (the Chavs corner next to the away fans).

I arrived too late at Crawley to hand out posters.

I did however, spread the word on the open terrace, by the clock.

The Crawley fans by me knew of our plight and were very supportive, especially the Charlton Season Ticket holder I was standing next to, who had "Been There!".

Some of the older fans offered to share the Broadfield stadium with us. Nice gesture but I tactfully pointed out that we needed our own stadium and that there would be a danger of Crawley becoming the second best supported club in their own town.

PS At the next NSC meet I propose that Lush and Edna are given special gallantry awards for their bravery on Saturday. Let's face it, not many blokes would have gone!!

Went to Fulham Ladies v Charlton Ladies. A surprisingly small crowd of about 250, half of whom were away fans. (There were 2,000 at the reverse fixture - I guess Fulham just aren't heavily supported at any level.) Most people I leafletted said they'd already sent a letter to Prescott and/or signed the online petition. The match was at Fulham's training ground and supporters had the use of facilities the men's first team use during the week, so I put posters up in the player's canteen and dressing room corridor. Hopefully Malbranque and co are writing to Prescott right this minute!

It was really eye-opening to see how regimented player's lives must be. There were "DO this" and "DON'T DO that" signs up everywhere. My favourite was a huge one up by the canteen serving hatch warning of the dangers of cheese. ("Cheese is very high in fat and canteen staff have been instructed to control player's intake of it. Cheese will only be available to players on rare occasions, and then only for use as a garnish.") Strangely there was no similar notice in relation to the bottles of Carlsberg Export in the fridge!

As for the game, Charlton won 2-1, the first time Fulham Ladies have lost at home in five years. (They seemed a bit upset.)

Thanks to everyone. From reading all the stories I conclude that 99.9% of all supporters were brilliant, dispite promises most clubs didn't get their act together, our success was often reliant on one person going out of their way to assist, the smaller clubs rolled out the carpet, and supporters were on the ball. The work stimulated even more interest. But every club has a nutter with no real interest of football supporters being a community.

Cheers evryone.
